Super Star Virgo

Hello all you helpful many times cruisers. Does Virgo have tea and coffee making facilities in the cabins...and is there anywhere on the ship where you can purchase a decent cappacino/latte etc?

Also is it correct that there is no ironing room or irons available to press your own clothes? Are laundry charges expensive?

Thanks for all your input. This forum is great.

Tea bags and coffee packs are available in some balcony cabins and all admiral suites but you could bring your own convenient pack as there are kettles in most if not all room(not so sure about world cruiser cabins though, sorry)

Many outlets e.g. Galaxy Of The Stars, Blue Lagoon have got coffee machines however it is chargeable. Coffee is also available at the buffet during mealtimes.

At our last sailing 12 mths ago in balcony cabin, there was no tea/coffe maker but apparently they were going to put some in soon thereafter - can't give more details.

There are no ironing facilities to do your own - only ever used laundry service once, to have long evening dress pressed cost from memory S$4.50. I suppose its relative whether you find certain charges expensive or not ;)

Welcome back to all recent cruisers and welcome aboard new cc members.:D

Fantastic to see the board and this thread steaming along.

I really wish a HK - SING route was more prevalent within StarCruises agenda as it would suit perfectly.( but only on SSV )

Revkar and Brissie Girl - the gala dinner evening is a special event which is memorable wherever you dine - but Noble House is exquisite in every way.

The butterflied prawns were my fav along with the desserts ( which sound odd - but taste great ) It is certainly a priority for the asian pax who obviously regard it highly.

Do make an effort to dress up this evening as it really consolidates the gala feel.

I am sure you will love the experience.

We are waiting so desperately for The Oriental in Singapore breakfast then our SSV SOM Junior Suite cruise in Aug.;)

The more experienced board members should be congratulated also on their undying efforts to assist - you have really assisted me whilst I have been reading your responses - please keep it going. :)

Cruise well to all

Simon

The Mediterranean buffet offers coffee and tea at dining hours, other times the machine is "closed for cleaning"

Coffee-making is available in Balcony cabins with a "smaller" sofabed(there are 2 kinds of balcony cabin actually) so far.

Alternatively, the bars offer good coffee and prices are reasonable - slightly cheaper than starbucks but taste almost the same.

The Ocean View Staterooms with balcony on deck 9 are category BC, and you have been upgraded to Oceanview Stateroom with balcony on deck 10 which is category BB . Perhaps it is slightly larger, it is certainly at an increased altitude ! Perhaps Mike in Taiwan can tell you in specific detail why it is a better cabin. When we travelled on SS VIRGO in 2005 we booked an Oceanview Stateroom with balcony and when we arrived at Singapore Cruise Centre were greeted like royalty and ushered into priority check-in to discover we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite without any extra cost . Deck plans for SS VIRGO are available on Star Cruises website .

BB and BC have got no difference actually. Both are balcony-class cabins and are entitled to priority check-in in the red-carpeted lines. A separate security line for balcony class passengers are also available. Only difference is that cabins are located on higher floor.

Room and balcony sizes are the same for all B-class cabins. Only difference is the interior. There is 1 kind which offers double sofabed(a larger one) and a single sofabed(the smaller one). Cabin allocation are "randomly" selected and there is no negative/positive to the cabins.

In my experience, the ones with smaller sofabeds are the ones with coffee-making facilities although bigger sofabed cabins are starting to have kettles.

There is absolutely no difference in all balcony cabins which might shortchange passengers.

Junior suites/executive suite passengers are Admiral Class passengers and there is a real priority check-in and are able to skip the security lines, however must wait for immigration and are escorted aboard by GSPs.

Hi all :)

furballPerth - Liz,

There is no capacity to press own laundry items - but SSV offers a pressing service which is reasonably priced and very efficient from my experience. Admiral Class pax are provided 2 items per day foc - but I am unsure if this applies to balcony also. World cruisers would pay a surcharge.

BE WARNED everyone - don't take your iron with you ( my mother did !!! ) and had to hand it over to staff for the trips duration. This is actually a safety measure to ensure no chance of fire or electrocution from non compliant appliances - which is justified.

The items I had pressed seemed to be late when I first used the service, but were already in the robe after being out on a shorex all day:o - great service indeed.

A quick question - Has anyone seen the new " musical" show ?

TIA...

Be good:D

Simon

some morer shots - please excuse the amateur nature

The food is fantastic in my regard - particularly the surcharge restaurants.

Pallazo is my favorite - especially the seafood bisque entree !;)

It is quite cosy - so book early. ( your on holidays - so dismiss the expense:D )

Jamin : Street Life you mean? It is the newest production show of Star Cruises and IMO, is one of the best.

I lost my review for the Aquarius when "connection failed" sorry to Mike.

ssv (and anyone else for that matter) - did you ever see "Sorpresa" (I think it was on in 2004) - that was absolutely superb IMO :)

Jamin - thanks for sharing your photos - I'm getting "homesick" - but we'll give the Gemini a try soon :D

I'm absolutely mesmerized by Street Life, did not feel that way about all the older shows that was performed on Virgo. Sorpresa is one of the best without a doubt.

Anyway, all shows are good just that Street Life feels special. Star Cruises produce excellent shows that cater to everyone, truly.

Yes, Boeckli - Sopressa was a magnificent show!

Unfortunately, I can't comment on the current Gemini shows as we had friends on board and spent more time chatting after dinner with them or other nights I was just too tired!

Gemini current shows . Dancers from Brazil OK but bit boring once you have seen them once . (They kept morphing into different costumes and re-appearing in successive shows.) Murray the magician from USA outstanding . Chinese Acrobats excellent . SS GEMINI dance Band very good . The night the SS GEMINI crew entertained guests was great fun - very talented crew . Topless Revue bit pointless when at 60 I was one of the youngest people on the boat (been there done all that in my 20's). But they have to cater to all tastes . Overall they do pretty good job, but Cruise Director Heideicha trying to whip everyone into a frenzy of audience enthusiasm and participation wore a bit thin at times - but then that's her job I suppose .

If you don't want to participate or go, no one forces you to . Not mentioned they screen new release movies several times daily, and they have excellent karaoeke facilities .

SSV,

Any chance you could find out about the Teen Program aboard the Virgo?

My kids enjoyed the kids club last year, but we will be travelling with a teenager in July 2008 and hopefully there will be enough organised activities to keep him busy!

Many thanks in advance,

Justine
