PaRaDoX3d Posted February 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2014 Will be stopping here and would like to sample some local cuisine and beverages (alcohol). Anyone have recommendations on what to eat/drink and where?
Rare crewsweeper Posted February 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Best bet for drinking is to take the Bar Hop Bus tour. There are threads here and there's a website. Google it. If you are downtown, San Miguel, head for Wet Wendy's or the newer sister spot Thirsty Cougar. Sports Bar is good too. There are threads on this board for local cuisine as well. But I'm not sure the search function is working. So assuming you don't take the Bar Hop where you can get good local food at Playa Bonita or Paradise Cafe, here's some suggestions to look for downtown. These are all local small places know as loncherias. Usually only open for lunch from around noon to 4P. Food is inexpensive and good. Las FLamitas on Ave 25 and JM Morellos. Pescarderia San Carlos (local seafood market) on Ave 50 Biz Sur between calle 3 and 5. Sabores on Ave 5 between Rosada Salas and Calle 3. Near the Plaza. Nice courtyard. Tonitos on Rosada Salas between Ave 10 and 15. Serves Pozole on Thursday. El Mercado has a number of small stands with local food offerings. On the Plaza, or just off by 1/2 block, are Cafe Leeza and Cafe Denis. CD is one of the oldest restaurants in San Miquel. For fare more to the taste of toruists but still good, there's La Mission and Panchos BackYard. Also Las Palmeras along the waterfront near the ferry dock has good food. Grab a cone at La Flor de Michoacan's near the Plaza. And a cuppa joe, or a bag of roasted beans from El Coffee, next to the Pizza Hut along the waterfront.
