Progreso and Merida aren't like the over touristed ports you may be familiar with. No Diamonds International, Little Switzerland, etc.
This is the real Mexico at it finest. Gold and watches are best bght at ports such as St Thomas, St Maarten, etc. However, silver in Merida can be a great bargain and lots to choose from. Merida is a great city and only 30-45 minutes by bus from Progreso. If you need more info, just email.
