Kings Wharf

Recommended Posts

We went to King's Wharf on a diverted RCCL cruise last fall (hurricane sent us there vs W Carib).. it was nice-- kind of off beaten path. There are ferries that will take you right to Hamilton- be sure to get on the right one! We hired a taxi driver- he showed us highlights of Island then dropped us off at HorseShoe Bay Beach- easy getting another cab back. In Kings Wharf there are a lot of little shops in restored fort.. also, go into "Snorkel Beach"-- its a little beach/park, free to public- awfully nice/clean-- but, for beach go over to Horseshoe Bay. (By they way, Grandeur of Seas from Baltimore goes to Kings Wharf every other week this summer).

Peggy - Hamilton is about 3 miles from Kings Wharf. When we were there on the Empress of the Seas last year we took the ferry from Kings Wharf to Hamilton. It was an enjoyable ride. As for Kings Wharf there wasn't too much to see or do. On the last day of our cruise the ship did dock in Hamilton though. I know Celebrity and other cruise lines make it a habit to stay longer in Hamilton than Kings Wharf, I am not sure why RCCL doesn't do the same.

Hi, returned from Bermuda just this morning.

From King's Wharf (also known as the Dockyard, or the West End), it's roughly 25 minutes to Hamilton by ferry. There are two, a big slower one, and a smaller faster one. Only some five minutes difference in sailing time, though. The larger one sometimes pulls up to where the ship is docked, and all ferrys can be boarded at the main ferry dock, which is a quick five minute walk away. Ferrys ran every 30 minutes.

The same ferry service can also get you direct to St. George in about 45 minutes (as I recall). Don't rule out the buses, as we found them to be an interesting mode of transportation. A bus from Dockyard to Horseshoe Bay is 40 minutes or so, and you get to mingle with some locals that way. We were fortunate to get a very outgoing and amusing driver on one of our trips. They were also running a bus marked special that traveled to Horseshoe Bay only, and it wasn't on the bus schedule. Just lucked into that one.

I would suggest the bus/ferry pass that is sold on the ship. It is $20 pp for two days, and is good for all ferrys and buses. They also have shorter and logner passes available.

We found Bermuda to be very easy to get around in.

Hope this helps,

Doc

Thanks for your replies. Just helping some people plan a Bermuda cruise next summer and have heard different stories of Kings Wharf being too far away from Hamilton (it doesn't sound too far).
