beachluvr! Posted February 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2014 Spending a full day and nite in Ft lauderdale and planned a beach day. But it appears we could have a beach day and a snorkel at Lauderdale by the sea. Is the snorkeling from the beach decent there? How far is it from a hotel near the port? We won't have a car. Will that be a problem?
Host Star Posted February 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) not much snorkeling from the beach but it is a nice beach area.... there are hotels, motels in lauderdale by the sea,... the port is a short taxi ride away .... maybe 15 $ Edited March 2, 2014 by Host Star
G.C Posted March 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2014 If time permits make the ride to Key Largo. You`ll find outstanding snorkeling offered there at our nations oldest marine park. The Ft. Lauderdale area is not even close for snorkeling.
Griff4AU Posted March 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2014 I actually live in LBTS having moved down here a little over a year ago, so maybe I am a bit biased. I think it's as good as shore diving / snorkeling as you can get down here, but I don't feel it's worth a trip with the limited amount of time you'll be here. The Copenhagen wreck is an OK wreck that's just 100 yards off the beach, and by Datura Ave there is a snorkel trail, but we've managed to essentially kill off the reef. If your hotel is by the Port, you are about 20 minutes away as LBTS is about 6 miles North of downtown FTL.
IfishSitka Posted March 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 29, 2014 We did some snorkeling from the beach last year and still enjoyed the occasional fish and finding some cool shells. No reef structure that we could find close to shore.
