Car Rental in Georgetown?

This will be our first time in Grand Cayman. Friends of ours, who have been there previously, recommended renting a car and exploring the island on our own.

Has anyone done this, and if so, where is the car rental place located?

Also, is there parking available near the public beaches, eg. Cemetery Beach etc.?

Thanks :)

Most of the car rental places are near the airport, but will pick you up near the port if you ask. All of the usual chains are there, but we usually rent from Andy's, a local company - http://www.andys.ky/ - they also have a location on Seven Mile Beach.

If you're just exploring the Seven Mile Beach area, I'd just use taxis or buses. A rental car is best if you're venturing off the main strip and/or out of George Town.

We used Andy's when we stayed on the island...but went with Cayman Auto when we visited on a cruise. It is close to port, within walking distance.

On our upcoming cruise stop we want with Andy's again, because we arrive early and Cayman Auto isn't open as early as Andy's. Andy's even helped get us on the road faster by taking my license info ahead of time so we can just sign and go.

Completely agree with bookbabe though, unless you're heading east or up to Rum Point there is no real value in renting a car. Use the bus system or take a cab.
