I know everyone is excited about this big screen TV on the Liberty but I really have a problem with it. Well, a potential problem . . . won't know for sure until I'm actually on board next April. I just can't imagine laying out in the sun, by the pool . . . listening to TV or a movie or whatever. I like the Caribbean bands playing music . . . so appropriate for a Caribbean cruise. Having to listen to a big screen TV movie or whatever that dominates the entire deck . . . well, it just doesn't seem like something I'd like. I will be very interested in what those on her first cruise think about this and whether or not it was a hit.

Sound will be muted during the day.. so whats the purpose of putting the tv on if you cant hear it....lol

(im glad to hear that the sound can be heard about the noise on the pool deck. I invisioned drive in type movie theaters where you connected the hearing do hickey to your chair. If you are old enough-- you can understand what I am saying...lol

The Drive-In idea is a good one, if you update it for today's technology. If ipods can broadcast on to a FM channel with a $30 attachmet, I would assume it wouldn't be that expensive for them to distribut the audio portion of the broadcast on to a FM channel, then any one with earphones and a small radio could watch and hear the movie. Carnival could also rent pocket radios and ear phone (another revenue stream for them)

Hello everyone! Just to clear some things up from personal experience, when I was on the Caribbean Princess, the sound could NOT be heard from the 300sq. ft. LED screen over the pool into other public areas (ie the other pool thats only maybe 150ft? away) as long as you were not right in front of the screen. Also, at the other pool, you still had the Caribbean Band playing so then you have the best of the 2 worlds. Im assuming since Carnival ownes Princess that the same general set-up with the band will be there. This is all personal opinion based on experience and different users may have different opinions, so I am only speaking for myself.

hope this helped someone..lol

I'm really curious . . . why would they have this giant screen TV over looking the pool with whatever on it . . . and unless you are sitting right in front of the screen you can't hear it? Unless one is proficient in lip reading . . . why? I guess what I'm really curious about is why in the world would there even be a giant screen TV on the deck of a cruise ship . . . whether you can hear it or not? Who wants to watch TV on a cruise? I admit . . . I do watch TV in my cabin while dressing for dinner . . . things they show that you may not have seen earlier in the day (port info, shopping info and games played on board). This big screen TV . . . during the day . . . just baffles me . . .

Maybe . . . after dark . . . when everyone is eating from the late night buffet and just sitting on the pool deck . . . it might be nice to have a really neat movie playing (sort of like a drive in movie). But only if it was a movie playing in theaters (not one that could be rented from your local Blockbuster) . . . and it could be heard by all. In the evening, there is so much going on . . . you could sit back and enjoy a new movie . . . or visit the casino or one of many lounges . . . including the piano bar. But during the day . . . having a big screen TV playing whatever on the pool deck . . . just seems . . . silly.

We were on the caribbean princess last year and the movie under the stars was one of the best things we ever did. At night they had two reservation only movie times where they played pretty new movies. We saw I Robot and Spiderman two. They put cushions and small blankets on the deck chairs and come around with free popcorn and candy you can buy. It was amazing. To be laying out under the stars with your loved one, with a nice frosty drink and popcorn, watching a good movie. I had not seen either of the movies but I would watch any movie that way. It was actually pretty romantic and a great evening. During the day they played kid friendly movies with the sound so you could only here it right around the screen. On Thanksgiving of course they showed the football games. That really drew a crowd and it was a much better way to watch than the whole ship trying to squeeze into one bar. One of the reasons we switched our original reservation from the Sensation to the Liberty was because of the movie screen. I just hope they do as good a job with it as Princess did. I can't wait to find out. Cindy
