Turtle farm and 7-mile beach on our own

My little girls have their hearts set on swimming with the turtles, but I'd also love to see Seven Mile beach. We're going to take the local bus to the turtle farm in the morning. I can't find a good map. Is Seven mile beach on the way back to the port? How far is the public beach area from the turtle farm and from the port area? Can we get on the No. 1 bus at the turtle farm and just tell them we want the "public beach"?
