The youth of Australia are only just growing to US Soda war brain washing, fizzy drink is fizzy drink to me and diet sprite isnt any different to diet mountain dew or diet 7up.

I could have a great discussion about smuggling booze with you again as that is a "real saving" but you are such a stickler for "Rules" I wont bother:)

Well that's where you are 100 percent wrong. Diet Mt Dew has caffeine and sprite and 7up don't. They are not even remotely close to the same.

If the boss doesn't have her diet Dew the rest of the world will suffer:)

I have no idea why others take their own soda. I just simply answered your question on the savings which are significant (for soda). I don't take my own because of the savings, I take my own because they don't carry on board what I like to drink and I'm not going to pay a higher amount to drink something I don't really care for. The savings (for me) is just a bonus.

To you, there may be no difference in the drinks, to me there is a HUGE difference!!!

I also take my own soda because I am allowed to (unlike smuggling alcohol). If I were not allowed to, I would simply drink the water and lemonade that they offer for free. It would not kill me to go without soda for a week (unlike some of the alcoholics here).

I carry a fold up cart and bring on 2 cases of Fuji water for the 5 of us and our other carryon bag fits on as well. Save about a 100 but also makes it convenient to have a few bottles to take ashore or walking around. The cart is great.

Still sounds a bit like going to a restaurant and taking along your own food to me. Travel to me is about adventure, new places, sampling local foods and beverages. If I just wanted to eat and drink my usual, lay around, read a good book or gamble at the casino, I can do all that here, at home.

Travelling is for experiencing different cultures. our cruise is port heavy, sea day light. The ship just allows us to get from port to port in comfort without the need to unpack. To each his own.

Here is a picture of the one we have and actually bought on the Valor a few years ago. When folded it is 11" x 7" x 3" and only 3.3 lbs. It holds up to 77lbs. They have them on Amazon. Type in Design Go Luggage Travel Trolley and it should come up. I think it's about $25 to $30.

Actually, it's more like taking your own drinks (not food) to a restaurant, something that is done quite often where my friend lives in Pennsylvania. whenever we visit her, we go to her favorite restaurant and take our own bottle (or box) of wine.

If I wanted to be sick for 3 days I would enjoy sampling the Mexican water but i really don't want to be sick on a cruise! :(

My wife, daughter and I are going on our first cruise in May. I saw that we can each carry a 12 pack of 20oz drinks.

We plan to check our luggage. I was wondering if I can use a rolling cart as a carry on to transport the sodas. If so, does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive cart to use?

We are leaving from the port of New Orleans if that makes a difference.

We got a fold up dolly at Sears.

They don't sell sodas & water on board? The cruise cost a fortune and you all worry about a few cents extra on sodas n water! A cruise is a holiday. Take it easy. Don't complicate your trip by dragging stuff around when you don 't need too. Besides, the trolley will probably cost more than the drinks mark-up.

Actually, we have used our dolly many times, in airports (It fold up enough to fit in the overhead), at work, bringing packages to the pot office etc.

If you are leaving from your home port, then $2.50 for 12 is a far better deal that almost $2.50 each!

You should have warned me, I just spewed soda out my nose. You consider cruising to be TRAVEL! & You think you are going to experience different cultures on ports of call that gets thousands of passengers almost daily? An adventure on a cruise ship! HA, HA, HA.

I spent more than 20 years in the Navy. I know how together away from the tourist spots and find quiet spots to sample the local food and wine. Some people like to be sheep, we prefer to be the black sheep.

No offence, we all cruise for different reasons. In my 1st post , I was just expressing my astonishment at wanting to drag all ones favourite tipples with you, in addition to ones luggage. No doubt the original OP lives in the US and is sailing from the US. Obviously, when you fly half way around the world just to get to your ship, priorities are different.

I on the other hand I very much enjoy the massive saving I get while drinking my "Legally" smuggled booze! Its almost the same feeling I got while smoking cigarettes in the school grounds;)

Fizzy drink is fizzy drink but you just dont Know it because your brain has been manipulated so much over the years by cleaver marketing tactics:D:D:D

I just found a small carry on roller bag in our attic. It is big enough for 2 12 packs and our 2 allowed bottles of wine. We are going to use it and buy more at port if needed. Thanks for the helpful replies and lol at the critical ones.

Cheers.

Hardly legal smuggling. In fact, the term you use is an oxymoron in itself. If it were legal (not a violation of law or rules.....which it is as I'm sure it's been pointed out to you many times) it would not be smuggling but simply carrying an item onto the ship (such as your underwear or toothbrush). The fact that you and others devise ways for it not to be found during the boarding process proves that it is not legal. Goes to show a bit about your character as well (as you have tried to show about my character with the fizzy drinks.....or as we call it, soda).

My taste buds know nothing of marketing strategy. They simply know what tastes good (DMD), what tastes fair (Sprite) and what tastes like crap (Coke, Pepsi). If your taste buds are not effective enough to tell the differences in the taste, well, I'm sorry you have that limitation. I sure hope they are at least sophisticated enough tell the difference between filet mignon and chuck steak (although you could save a lot of money by paying for chuck steak and thinking it was filet mignon!).

I don't think there is a law in Florida that would prohibit me taking alcohol aboard a ship. It may be against Carnival rules - but certainly no law will be broken- and what the hell is soda ?

Actually, there are laws in every state that could be used by a savvy lawyer if the cruise lines wished to pursue them. Public nuisance laws. Those same laws allow theaters to prosecute people who make noise during a movie, to remove hose from stores who make scenes, remove drunks from a public game, and a host of other applications. Kind of a catch all type of law. Carnival seems to not worry about the prosecution aspect (probably due to public relations) and just destroys or holds said unauthorized alcohol until the end of the cruise. Their ship, their choice.

Soda has already been explained. Also known as "pop" or "soda pop". Have no idea what it's called in Canada, but then again, I don't live their either.

OP, have you found a decent carrier yet? I just use a small duffle bag myself.
