Okay, so I live in Nevada. I don't gamble here at home, but occasionally I do when cruising. I also have the TR card from Harrah's because you get great coupons in the mail, just for having one, and for being a local.

I read somewhere (and can't find it) that NCL and Harrah's have a partnership of some kind.....any perks for having a Harrah's Club card???

I almost never gamble even through I live near Boomtown Casino in Harvey, LA and Harrah's Casino in New Orleans, LA.

But the last two cruises I been on (Norwegian Getaway out of New Orleans, LA and Norwegian Epic out of Miami, FL), I met people that were on a free cruise because they are regulars at one of the Harrah's Casinos.

If you consult the "Cruise Casinos" board under the "Cruise Conversations" you can get lots of info about this. Also you can type in "Total Rewards" in the search. Here's a link to a thread I had started last year that has more info as well: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1782727

Basically, you won't get much unless you start gambling more at the TR properties, but you can also check out the Casinos at Sea threads (I am not sure how much you play on the ships, but you might get something through CAS).

I (we) are not high rollers by any means. But we are going on a free 7 night cruise out of Boston from Harrah's. I was thinking this was some sort of scam. I think I'm smart guy so I was looking for the catch, there wasn't. We got the certificate called the number and booked. We paid the port charges and taxes and that was it.

The only thing the card itself gets you is a discount off of NCL rates and that starts at Platinum, nothing for Gold anymore~

All of our cruises on NCL have been comped through Total Rewards, DH is Diamond~ our upcoming Sky was comped and our Getaway we used the discount~ we also get the drinks on us card waiting for us in our cabin~

:) Harrahs is a legit club that gives legit perks. I used to work there. I was the "eye in the sky" back in the mists of time before that weird Lady in the Lake gave Excalibur to some guy named Arthur. (NObody should accept swords from weird women, however.) It's nice to hear from a Harrah's customer that they are happy, even if I have not worked there in a long time. I guess you can never really take the "company out of the girl".

Anyway, I want to thank everyone for their responses. I cannot gamble at Harrahs -- not ever. Anyone who has worked for Harrah's in their surveillance department has a lifetime agreement with the club to never gamble there...that's why I don't.

When I do gamble here in Nevada, which is NOT often, and never very much I place my bets at another club/company that has no affiliation. The only reason I have the Harrah';s club card is so that I can have their dining coupons. That's allright for me to have according to my agreement. But if they ever saw "points" on the card, Nevada would light up like the New Years pole at Times Square and I could get arrested. It would be considered a gaming violation...

But your posts have all been very helpful. I guess that I am out of luck on this one. :)

Thanks...that was a great thread...I really appreciate it.

I don't want to revive that thread, but someone should tell Grandpaul over there, that NCL and Harrahs are NOT owned by the same company. (He thinks they are.) Harrah's was bought by Ceasar's in 2010. Prior to that it was privately owned first, then went public, blah, blah...at one point it was owned by Promise Corp, a British company. NCL is owned by Star Cruises....completely different companies. They just participate in the same rewards program ...

I can gamble on NCL at sea....that's not an issue. .I just can't gamble at any property owned by Harrah's, or Ceasars.

No problem! Yes, I think I remember reading at some point that it's some sort of shared marketing between CET and NCL that accounts for the cruise rewards and discounts. BTW, I know you mentioned you're not a big gambler, but you might want to poke around the casino boards a bit more, because I'm sure I've read posts from people who have received cruise certificates from a number of other casinos, not just TR (since you can't gamble at the TR properties!). Maybe it'll be the motivation you need to gamble some more lol :p

LOL....oh the motivation (given my background) is strong to stay AWAY....I only play poker, craps and baccarat. Those are really the only games in favour of the player. (Just my studied opinion.)

I don't mind video poker and would probably enjoy killing an hour at sea doing it...but when I have a serious wad, I choose my club , and the table very carefully. LOL

If I can win a good, decent table at sea, it pays for my trip and sometimes the next one. It's how i paid for my last cruise on Star Clippers. ;)

There maybe some issues with NCL's most recent amended S1 filing that disclosed the related party relationship with Caesar's and it's shared services arrangement with common owned entities.

Apollo Global Management, LLC is an American private equity firm, founded in 1990 by former Drexel Burnham Lambert banker Leon Black.[2] The firm specializes in leveraged buyout transactions and purchases of distressed securities involving corporate restructuring, special situations, and industry consolidations. Apollo is headquartered in New York City, and also has offices in Purchase, New York, Los Angeles, Houston, London, Frankfurt, Luxemburg, Singapore, Hong Kong and Mumbai. The firm has invested over $16 billion in companies.[3]

As of March 2013, Apollo managed over US$114 billion of investor commitments across its private equity, credit and real estate funds and other investment vehicles making it one of the largest alternative investment management firms globally.[4] Among the most notable companies currently owned by Apollo are Claire's, Caesars Entertainment Corporation, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Realogy (Coldwell Banker and Century 21 Real Estate), CKE (Hardee's and Carl's Jr. Restaurants. Ltd) and CORE Media Group (American Idol, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Muhammad Ali Enterprises)[5][6]

NCL's S1 filing (Annual Statement) is a public document and an be obtained online.

Unless the filing is erroneous Apollo owns Caesars, NCL and Carl's Jr.

Perhaps we will soon see Carl's Jr. as a option on the Getaway! And perhaps American Idol in the theaters!

Thanks for this very much. I was not aware of this, and from the way it reads, there might be enough "distance" for "arms length", for me personally, but just in case, I sent an email to the NV Gaming Commission, asking their opinion on my personal intentions/situation. I made sure to reference this filing in particular and sent them my copy of my agreement with Harrah's. I really appreciate the response and the information.

Take care!

You get discounts on your cruise depending on your TR level. Anywhere from 5% to 20% off the lowest available price.

Thanks Clem....I appreciate your time, but I cannot gamble at Harrahs or Ceasars' due to the fact that I was surveillance at one time for Harrah's. It's a long story...But I am glad you posted the info for others that can use it. :)

I am fully aware of the implications of being involved in security, surveillance, audit, etc.
