skf Posted March 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2014 Does anyone know if there is bus/coach service from Southampton Cruise Terminal that goes to Portsmouth Dockyard? I'm feeling an urge to visit HMS Victory. Thank you, Steve

Red Fox Posted March 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2014 There is an hourly train service from Southampton Central to Portsmouth Harbour, right next to The Historic Dockyard. Takes about 50mins. Day return is £10.80 per adult. National Express run from Southampton Coach Station to The Hard, journey time 50mins and prices variable First Hampshire & Dorset run a bus service from Southampton City Centre to The Hard and take about 1.5hrs, fare ??? First bus fares work in mysterious ways.

Rare John Bull Posted March 3, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) The train is your best bet - hourly service, more frequent if you don't mind a change of train. Ask for a cheap day-return, it's about the same cost as a one-way ticket. No need to buy in advance. Your start point is Southampton central station, walkable from City cruise terminal or a £5-£8 taxi fare from other cruise terminals. Destination is Portsmouth Harbour, the end of the line & AFTER the main Portsmouth&Southsea station. It is right alongside the gateway to the Historic dockyard & Historic ships. National Express coach from Southamption coach station goes to the same place - known variously as Portsmouth Harbour, Portsmouth travel interchange & The Hard. It doesn't run from the cruise terminals, you board at Southampton coach station, near the rail station. Don't get off at Portsmouth International ferry port, that,s different place entirely. Slower than the train, best to prebook, only a couple of pounds cheaper than the train. JB :) Edited March 3, 2014 by John Bull
