Funcouple Posted July 24, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2005 In general, from your experience, how is the wave action accross the Atlantic to Bermuda vs a Carribbean sailing such as Miami to the islands? Of course, not including storms which tend to offer nice wavey rides in any water.
Bonnie Voyager Posted July 24, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2005 We just returned from Bermuda on Grandeur of the Seas and did not notice any difference in the amount of motion versus our Caribbean sailings.
caviargal Posted July 24, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2005 My 2 Bermuda cruises were amongst the roughest ever. Was told both times it was normal for that route.
Host Kewlguy Posted July 24, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2005 I sailed to Bermuda 4 times in the past year and had rough seas every sailing. The worst was a tropical storm last October on the Horizon.

What do you consider rough seas? - A constant roll? - splashing waves over the deck? - unable to eat and drink? - hanging over the edge of the balcony to get some fresh air? MrPete Posted July 26, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 26, 2005 We did it once, from NY, and had seas of glass! It was July.
smeyer418 Posted July 26, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 26, 2005 Bermuda is in the Atlantic Ocean, the Carribean is a somewhat sheltered sea. Bermuda tends to be rougher than the Carribean although at times each can be rough or as smooth as glass.
kenandlaura06 Posted July 26, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 26, 2005 What times of year are the seas smoother or rougher on that route?
DEL67 Posted July 26, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 26, 2005 We've sailed to Bermuda at the end of April and several times the end of August. Sometimes its smooth, but generally it is rougher than the Caribbean. How rough? It was not as bad as a hurricane, but the ship was rolling and you could feel the spray on the promenade deck. Soxfan05 Posted July 26, 2005 #11 Share Posted July 26, 2005 We sailed Boston to Bermuda in September. It was rough. How rough? The pools were closed because they were almost empty for all but 2 days of the trip- the water had splashed out and one night the doors and drawers in our stateroom were slamming open and closed with the movement of the ship. That's what we get for sailing in the Atlantic during hurricane season. We also sailed in September in the Caribbean. It wasn't glass but it definitely wasn't anywhere near as bad as it was in the Atlantic. I guess it's the luck of the draw. The weather is so unpredictable and we're at it's mercy no matter what the time of year when we're out in the open ocean.
