Tell me about suite upgrades

So I'm seeing a lot of traffic regarding suite upgrades and special offers or rates if you opt to bump into a higher stateroom.

 

How does this usually work, does NCL ping you in advance of the trip, or does it tend to be a face-to-face offer when you check in for the cruise?

Very rarely if ever are upgrades sold at pier.

Never. The people handling the check-in process are employees of the port contractor and all they do is to check IDs, set up onboard accounts and take passenger pictures.

 

If there were upgrades available (I haven't seen that on any of my cruises) they would need be negotiated onboard at Guest Services - usually there is a notice on top of the desk saying that the ship is sailing full and no upgrades are available.

You watch the website looking for deals and if you see something you call your TA, your PCC or NCL 800 number...

I'm watching the fares closely on my upcoming cruise. They're coming down but not enough for my budget yet. Once more & I'll be calling to upgrade & surprise DH. Fingers crossed...........
