la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2014 I never got around to sharing these. Better late than never I guess! According to Carnival, we were on the 6/22/2013 Carnival Breeze EXOTIC EASTERN CARIB cruise. We were in balcony stateroom 8201, right behind the bridge which was very cool to watch when docking and setting sail. We have only been on one other Carnival ship, the Liberty. I am not a fan of what most of the Carnival ships look like on the interior. Tacky, tacky, tacky. The Breeze is an exception and seeing the Sunshine, appears to be a new style for Carnival. Let's hope they go back and refurbish all their ships because some of them look like a mess. The Breeze looked much more refined. Loved the ship. That said, we are doing one more Carnival cruise next week and then moving on to other lines. Nothing against Carnival, I wouldn't turn down another one, but we have done the ports we were interested in and they seem to have a whole bunch of ships going all the same places. We've cruised DCL- very nice, but way too many unruly brats and inattentive parents everywhere. Plus the cost is way too much for two teachers to afford very often. Next up is RCCL and we'll see how those ships fit us. They look way better than the majority of Carnival ships I've seen. Even though the Carnival ships mostly look tacky, we enjoy the fellow cruisers on Carnival much more than on Disney. The kids were much better behaved and the adults were more to our liking. The whole Carnival vibe was much more enjoyable than the fake, overdone, over-hyped DCL vibe. Carnival has also taken very good care of me and my dietary allergies, which is a huge concern for me being out at sea. Maybe we'll just stick to the Breeze and Sunshine! Nah, time to try something new, lol.
la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #2 Share Posted March 11, 2014 We had FTTF, which was worth every penny because I hate lugging stuff around. Our room was ready when we boarded. Our luggage took longer but was still delivered before others on our hall got theirs. No tendering on this trip, so I don't know how well that works with FTTF. Balcony views. Forward, then panning to aft.

Windy56 Posted March 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2014 We just got off a back-2-back on the Breeze a week ago. We had a great time. Excellent service and great entertainment. We really enjoyed the comedians and even the shows- Motor City, Divas and the British Invasion one. Food in the dining room and buffet left a bit to be desired though. Not sure what you meant by your room in relation to the bridge. Could you explain, please?

la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted March 11, 2014 After dropping off our carry-ons and taking a few pics, we checked out the ship and had lunch at the buffet. Food was fine, lots of choices for me- salad, fruit, carved meat of some kind. Tried a gluten-free cheese free pepperoni pizza. Never had another one, it was pretty bad. I have allergies to gluten, milk, and apples and can't eat regular pizza. It would have tasted much better with cheese. I eat cheese-less gluten free pizza all the time, there are better ways to make it. Thankfully, there's a Guy's burger on board. I eat it bun-less and cheese-less, but with bacon, Tabasco, pickles, lettuce, and potato straws, who needs a bun or cheese? Didn't take any food porn, but you've seen it all before. Atrium views. la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted March 11, 2014 I found some relatively safe choices here. Didn't spend much time in the casino. I live about 3.5 hours from Vegas, so we go a few times a year. Don't like the cigarette smoke either so that's another reason. Fortunately you can bypass it completely using the outside promenade deck. We really liked the Ocean Plaza area.
la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted March 11, 2014 More atrium. Loved the look of the piano bar. I don't drink anymore, so I stay out of bars though. Same with the Red Frog Pub, but we did sit and listen to the vocalists occasionally.

la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Sailing past the Liberty which we sailed summer 2012. Went down to our balcony once we hit the Atlantic. So long Miami. First sunset on board.
la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) After resting up, we got ready for dinner. Anytime dining. I had gone down to the Sapphire room earlier to register my food allergies and diet needs with them and pre-ordered my dinner. Each night at dinner, Irina would bring me the next day's menu and have me pre order the following day's meals. Carnival does such a great job with this. Dinner nightly and breakfast/brunch when I felt like those meals in the dining room. We usually do the buffet for breakfast where I can get fried egg whites cooked in vegetable spray, fruit, and oatmeal with soy milk very easily. I don't like sitting down all the time, but we did do breakfast once and the "comedy" brunch once. All other breakfasts were at the buffet and lunches were at the buffet, Guy's, or the salad bar at Ocean Plaza. We did some things around the ship that evening but were pretty tired from the day and turned in rather early, reading and watching TV until we fell asleep. Next morning, we woke up to cloudy skies and they were cloudy the entire trip. We had occasional sunny afternoons, but didn't see much sun until we got back to Florida. We had spent the past week in Vero Beach and had such great weather. We were disappointed with the weather on the cruise, but it did keep us from getting overheated and sunburned in port. First stop, Grand Turk. Even with the weather, we enjoyed our day in Grand Turk. We've been there twice now and enjoyed both times, but we are done with Grand Turk. la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #13 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Next day, San Juan. One of my favorite cities. We have been here a few times before and look forward to returning again. We were delayed over an hour in disembarking due to an issue with customs. The captain extended our stay and we made up an hour of the missed time that afternoon. Since we didn't arrive until around noon, it was very crowded disembarking. We walked the old town had lunch at a local place for mofongo.
la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted March 11, 2014 We headed up the hill to Fort San Cristobal and toured it. We've also done El Morro in the past and skipped that this time. I see you, Breeze.

la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #20 Share Posted March 11, 2014 We had a great time in Puerto Rico again. Next morning, we woke up to this nice view. Pulling in to Tortola. Had breakfast, then disembarked and grabbed a taxi to Cane Garden Bay. In case you haven't noticed, we don't do excursions very often. I like exploring places on my own. It's part of the adventure. I also don't like being on someone else's schedule. Or riding tour buses. Lots of people like them and that's fine, and we occasionally do one. Anyway, we would have missed the wild taxi ride up and over the mountain.
la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #21 Share Posted March 11, 2014 After surviving the taxi ride, we were greeted with this lovely view.
la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #22 Share Posted March 11, 2014 We were some of the first arrivals. After a while it got a bit sunnier and more people arrived. Since we got such an early start, we decided to head back to the ship for lunch. The taxi ride home wasn't as wild as the way over. We did see our original driver broken down on the side of the road. Poor guy. He had his friend come and pick us up because he wasn't going to make it back to us. The roads there aren't as well maintained as on Saint Thomas and I would have preferred more guardrails on those mountain roads. After lunch, we headed back off the ship to explore the town and buy some souvvies.
la2kw Posted March 11, 2014 Author #23 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Nicer section of road. In Road Town. I truly believe every town should have a complaints commission. Hello, Breeze.
