maspaws Posted March 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2014 We would like to rent a car at the port and then drop it off at the Ft. Lauderdale airport 2 days later. Is there any rental company that does this? I searched on line but didn't find anything. Any help will be appreciated.
jimsig Posted March 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) Renting at one location and droping off ant another should not be an issue. Not sure what is at the port for rental agencies but back in 08 we rented from Alamo. We rented before our cruise, but they had a shuttle bus between their location near the airport and the port. Should be able to rent from them at MIA and drop back at FLL Edited March 27, 2014 by jimsig
JenLovesToTravel Posted March 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2014 Enterprise has a location at the Hyatt which isn't far from the port Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Cruiser Bruiser Posted March 27, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 27, 2014 Thrifty has a shuttle that will take you from Port Miami and drop you off at the MIA rental car center. It is free, but you have to choose Port Miami as the pickup location and FLL as the drop off location. Just did this two weeks ago. Good luck! mfinster007 Posted March 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 27, 2014 You can also find this same service with Hertz as well. There is a Miami downtown location very close to the port which includes shuttle pick up. The lines get long with all the cruise passengers. Get off the ship earl and make sure you have a Hertz Gold Card too enabling you to get in the express line. Our reservation was from Orlando to MIA. Demonyte Posted March 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 27, 2014 As said by previous poster, Hertz downtown location is a mayhem when disembarking cruise passengers are waiting for pickups and embarking passengers try to drop cars there. Did that couple of times but now (if their price allows) we use exclusively Alamo at MIA, they have the capacity and things go much smoother there. Free shuttles (co-branded Alamo/National) run continuously between MIA RCC and POM.

You don't even go inside once at the airport. Just print your ticket at home, walk into the garage and pick out your car, stop at the exit and hand the ticket over, and go. It's so quick and easy. Yep, it's very easy for you natives. ;) We aliens aren't able to do that or even use the machines by the check-in counters.

CP Tech Posted March 27, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2014 Like others have mentioned. Last Dec. I used Hertz downtown location with drop off over in Tampa at TPA. We managed to get a shuttle, literally, as we walked off the ship and got to the office pretty fast and through all the paperwork.
2boyzmom Posted March 28, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 28, 2014 I have a reservation to pick up a car from Hertz- we will be first off the ship (Haven) but will the Hertz shuttle be running before 9am?
mrsjetpup Posted March 28, 2014 #14 Share Posted March 28, 2014 There is a Budget rental car company a couple of miles from the port of Miami. We actually did the opposite, picked up at the budget FLL counter then dropped it off downtown and got a taxi to the port. After the cruise we got a taxi back to budget downtown and then went up to Orlando. It was all very easy! And budget has some great discount codes, was by far the cheapest for us.
