Why we are not likely to see Summer 2015 QOS deployments anytime soon

Recommended Posts

Haha no, my bad, I didn't mean slots like casinos... I meant docking slots. The limited number of ships that Bermuda allows to call in a given season. Royal wouldn't want to give up one of its coveted slots.

LOL. Never heard of them referred to as slots. I am the daughter of a merchant marine who worked aboard cruise ships for 40+ years back in the days of luxury liners that don't exist anymore. I was raised to call the slots your referred to as berths. Slots, to me, are casino games, and since Bermudian government is currently reviewing its policy on casinos, I thought that was what you were referring to.

Given the events that have transpired and Mr. Goldstein's unspecific "some weeks, not days" statement (I don't need to watch the video; I heard it live), I tend to see the rationale I put out here as less conjecture and more hypothesis.

Unlike the few who post just to see their numbers inflate, I post when I feel I have come across something that might serve the interests of this group. Such was this initial posting. Food for thought, to be consumed or ignored, but definitely not for attack!

When your inviting folks on three different Threads within a span of an hour to view an opinion which is highly speculative in nature at best,?? Its hard to believe that the numbers

inflating game was not in place. Anyone can read a daily version of the Royal Gazette, Bermuda Sun or other various publications and form an opinion. My approach is a bit differnet than your as having traveled to this island by land and sea and having a vested financial interest in paradise for over 25+yrs :)

Good question!:D I liked that. But the answer - weeks. Not days. Not years. Weeks. Ugh!

Could be one week, could be 51 weeks.:D

oh well, at least we heard it from the "horse's mouth"

Thank You I am glad I had the opportunity to ask the question and to hear what Adam has to say. I am still hopeful that it will be worked out and Bermuda will be port for Quantum in the spring of 2015. That is what I hope ..if it happens great if not I will do a different ship to Bermuda.

Since there were several threads questioning essentially the same thing, my reference to my thread on those threads was purely an efficient means to disseminate some information. I could care less about numbers as I use this website for informational purposes only and not to generate a social life.

As you say, anyone can read a daily newspaper, but some do not have the luxury of spending the time to research possible pertinent information regarding a particular topic. My sources were not limited to media publications and I chose to abstract what I had found to make it easier for other people.

Speaking of conjecture, aren't you engaging in the same thing as you know essentially nothing of my background or experience with Bermuda.

Your Correct, I have no Idea who you are, but judging by your posts it was rather obvious that you were typing for verbatim something out of Bernews ??? At least you reposted a

relevant link which I provided to you that a provides a comprehensive view of the intended project.

Sorry to inform you that the link I posted was not provided to me from you but rather from the bookmark on my own computer. It's nice to know that you had read the information contained therewith too, but I am in the habit of following maritime events since my childhood and have been following the Study weekly for some time now.

Insofar as my syntax appearing verbatim (not "for verbatim"), my professional background does not necessitate my reliance on other people's words to disseminate information; I am quite comfortable using my own sentence structure.

I agree; enough has been said.

It's my understanding that after refurbishment, she is slated to go to Asia. Given the Bermuda conundrum though, I guess they could bring her back up north for one season. Unlikely that she would do Bermuda from PC. RC makes a lot of money from their Bermuda runs out of Bayonne -- lots of parents taking kids on summer vacations. They won't give that revenue up easily.

I really hope you're right on this. I love Bermuda & EOS, & have been throwing this suggestion out there to anyone who might listen for months now. just curious, as you seem much more knowledgeable... is there any reason they can't support 2 ships in Bayonne (QOS & EOS)? I'm a relative newbie around here, but I know lots of people that would continue to sail the smaller, older EOS, leaving QOS to those that want the shiny new ship & all of its new toys... I'm not one of them, especially at the prices that are being published (I thought they were ridiculous on opening day, now they're insane!) Thanks & look forward to your reply!

Saw you on the hangout & thanks for asking some great questions... I thought all of the questions were really good from all of the participants....I was happy to see someone from the next town over from me participating as well.... that was pretty cool.

any suggestions for other ships going to Bermuda in late Oct 2015? our annual trip seems doomed at this point as I cannot find any Bermuda-only itineraries in late Oct. Our next outing this Oct was a compromise... we don't even get one night on the island (big letdown for everyone in my party), but at least we're getting there & will have a chance to say bon voyage to EOS & her fantastic crew :( (but hopefully, if maritimer&r is correct, maybe we'll have another chance to say bon voyage?

Thanks for listening!

Rosie

Hello Rosie ~ thank you. It was a great experience and all asked important questions. I know Celebrity Summit sails to Bermuda but she might not late October.

Yes pricing is very high especially now for Quantum. I did book within the first couple of hours. Even though my one itinerary is 12 nights I could do two cruises for the price. I will have a 'taste of Quantum' on the inaugural Nov 23 sailing so I guess much depends on what I see there.

Explorer of the seas is now heading for Southampton and European itineraries the summer of 2015 as was announced today and a poster mentioned above. Love to watch the ships arrive in Bermuda on the webcam and Explorer arrives there one week today.

Thank you for this info. I hadn't seen it yet. I seem to get multiples of emails I don't want from royal but things I would like to read, never arrive? So again, thanks!

With the exception of our last cruise, there have always been other boats parked at Heritage wharf along side us at King's wharf, including, in occasion the Summit, so she was the first boat I looked into. Last sailing to Bermuda is in early October now.. it seems everyone is moving away from that itinerary in October. I think Breakaway may be going but I'm not sure I want a boat that size... however I am looking into it.

I've been glued to the webcam since it came online. It helps me get thru this cold snowy winter! ;) another 4 inches fell yesterday after we finally had bare ground again. Ugh.

Thanks again for your input. Enjoy your upcoming cruises! I was thinking of booking the 11/21 booking for my husband's birthday when bookings first opened but when I saw how much they wanted for a cabin we didn't even want for only 2 or 3 nights, I said forget it. It was the same price we were paying for a full week on Explorer to Bermuda in the aft cabin I love! I just couldn't justify it. I'm going miss Explorer :(
