BeesandLadybug Posted March 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2014 I first cruised on the Sky when it came to Miami, after being transferred from Hawaii. They had revamped the ship by adding the casino and other rooms, but the kids club back then didn't have many activities and my grandkids were bored to tears. I'm wondering if in the years since, they have revamped the ship or done any improvements to it, especially to the kids club. We will be sailing at the end of this year, and I'm hoping the ship is better than it was. If you have cruised on the Sky recently, please let me know how you liked it. Thank you so much!! :)
dolita22 Posted March 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2014 Not exactly recently...but back in 2011. Loved the Sky! It was my first NCL cruise and my parents' first-ever cruise. Got them hooked on cruising. I'm trying to convince my husband we need to cruise the Sky later this year. It's a great ship! Are you on the 3- or 4-day? We did the 4-day and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an easy ship to get around, staff were friendly, and the ship itself was in good condition, considering the number of people on board each week/weekend. Can't help with the kids' club...sorry. Looks like the Sky may have gone into drydock in October 2013? Check out this thread: http://messages.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1923924 Enjoy your cruise on the Sky! Marieux Posted March 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2014 Hi there, we cruised the Sky this past October 2013. We enjoyed it very much. We went with 5 couples and we had children ranging from 7 -12 years old and they loved Kid's Corner. They loved it so much that many of them spent most of their time in there as opposed to out by the pool area. Part of that is because there are no slides or waterparks on this ship, but Kid's Corner, their activities and staff made up for alot of that. My son stayed there while we ventured into Nassau as well as during dinner. We made sure our kids went to the buffet prior to taking them to Kid's Corner for the evening. They would rather go there than sit in the MDR. I hope this helps.
BeesandLadybug Posted March 29, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted March 29, 2014 Thank you, dolita22 and Marieux, for the info on the Sky. I'm looking forward to sailing her again in December and seeing what has changed in all these years. Marieux, I see where you're cruising on the Getaway this December. You'll love it! We just did the 3-15 cruise and it was great. I don't know how you booked it, but you may want to call your TA and ask to see if they can give you an upgrade. We originally had a regular balcony on Deck 8, and then my NCL TA gave us an upgrade to a Spa Balcony, which means you can have access to the Thermal Suite at the Mandara Spa. Only passengers in Spa Balconies or Spa Mini-Suites can have complimentary access to the Spa which normally costs $45/per day. Also, wait until the last day to do your onboard shopping, as they will have BIG discounts on almost everything onboard. Make sure you make your show reservations before going on the cruise. They go fast. The crew was fantastic, and there is always something to do. Have a great cruise! :)

Our balcony is on Deck 14 but will definitely look into the upgrade. I am looking forward to the trip.

sc2011 Posted April 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2014 We were on the sky in late December for our anniversary. We loved it. Stayed on the ship the whole time. The crew was great. Only negatives were cold eggs on breakfast buffet and dirty windows throughout ship. We'll go again for sure!
JLBKL Posted April 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2014 We were on the Sky last week! (Oh how I wish was there right now as the snow is falling AGAIN here!) The ship was great! It was our first ever cruise, and we are in love! The ship was clean and the staff were beyond fantastic, plenty of choices at buffets, food was buffet food and I thought it was good, and I wasn't cooking! Lots to do for entertainment, casino was great, shows were good! Can always find something to do! Kids checked out teen club, albeit hesitantly, but in no time made some great friends and had the time of their lives, again, the staff was amazing! You won't be disappointed. How can anyone be disappointed on a cruise...what a vacation! Have fun!! Sent from my iPad using Forums
gkrnjlr Posted April 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2014 I was on the Sky just this past January, after it's most recent refurbishment. There were several changes from our trip prior to that (2009) and I can only imagine how different it is now compared to when it first came to Miami from Hawaii! We've taken our kids (ages 6, 9 and 10) on the Sky several times and they have always had fun! I think you and the kids will enjoy the Sky! She's a great ship!
