Which med. cruise ports are good for hiring a taxi driver at the pier for a day?

We have done this several times on our Cruises to the Caribbean with huge success. Will this also work in Europe (Livorno, Rome, Cannes,Ephesus and Athens)? Or, will the tour not be very good?

Although we did not do it, a couple we met on our cruise last May took a taxi in Kusadasi to Ephesus. Now this was one of the ports that was bombed a few weeks ago, so be careful. As you disembark, the drivers are right there asking if you want a tour to Ephesus. You should not have a problem getting a driver.

 

We loved Kusadasi and shopping in the Bazaar. Bargain hard, the area is depressed due to the terrorism threat and lack of ships visiting the port (one shop owner admitted this to us).
