Just Back from the Legend!

Just got home from our cruise that sailed 3/30 - 4/6 on the Carnival Legend. This was our second time on this ship and itinerary, the other sailing being about 2.5 years ago. I probably won't do a full review, but I'll answer questions. A few notes:

  • Post dry-dock upgrades were very well done and added a lot to the ship. The Green Thunder water slide is amazing - what a rush! Didn't make it to the Red Frog Pub until the last night, but it's really nice and I wish we'd found it earlier. Bonsai Sushi is tasty and very reasonable in price - $1 sushi / sashimi pieces, $4/$6 rolls.
  • Shore stuff... we stayed on in Cozumel because we wanted the ship to ourselves. We liked that so much that we stayed on in Grand Cayman, too.
  • Belize - time is a little short here. We did cave tubing and zip line with .BZ. Ziplining was really good, better than I thought it was going to be. Cave tubing was OK, the water levels were down and we only did one cave (but it was big). The guys did a great job at getting us back in time for one of the last tenders, but if I had it to do over again I'd skip the zipline - we were really short on time and we were all a little nervous about making it back to the ship.
  • Roatan - did the Victor Bodden Zip and Dip, would highly recommend it. The zip line guides were tons of fun, we got to do a lot of tricks and there were some really nice long runs. The beach afterwards was beautiful. Drinks were a little pricey at the beach club we were at (Bananarama, I think), but there was a place a little down the beach with a lot of 2 for 1 drink specials. We particularly enjoyed the 2 mojito for $7 specials.
  • Mike Pack is the best cruise director we've ever had, and it's not even close. He was really engaged with the passengers, made sure everyone had a good time, and it just seemed like he was having fun. Make a point to go to his trivia / name that tune sessions, they are an absolute riot.
  • Pre/post cruise - we drove down the day before and stayed at the Country Inn and Suites Tampa East, using their "park and cruise" package. The hotel was nice, and it was the least stressful shuttle situation we've ever had - they asked us what time we wanted to go to the port and were the only group on the shuttle there and back. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a park/cruise hotel.

We're bummed that the Legend is re positioning to Australia, it's one of our favorite ships and we love sailing out of Tampa. We had a great cruise! Questions?

What nights were the formal nights? Did you eat at the Steakhouse?

Formal nights were after the first sea day and after Roatan (departure is like 2:30 at that port so it's not a big deal). Past guest party was right after the Roatan departure as well.

Didn't eat at the steak house - can't believe it's gone up to $35/pp. We had the anytime dining and thought the food was really good. They haven't gone to the new menu yet, which was good because we had to have our bitter and blanc!

I am glad you had a great cruise. We will be on her in three weeks. Do you know what time the casino opened the first night?

If there is any way you can post the Funtimes it would be appreciated by many here. We can't seem to get them post dry dock.

It was probably 6 or 6:30 before we got under the Sunshine Skyway bridge, so I can't imagine that they'd be able to open the casino until 8 or 9. We're not casino people, sorry.

We didn't keep the fun times, hopefully someone else has them and can post.

What time did the ship get in to Tampa and what time were you able to get off?

Wondering if we can make an 11:00 flight in July.

The fog shouldn't be an issue in July.

We didn't have fog. Even so, we didn't pull in until around 7 AM, and weren't off the boat until 9:30 or so. We did the self-assist debarkation and were one of the first groups off.

Was on there with you.

Mike was everywhere. The funiest thing was in the buffet Fri or Sat he was riding around on a mans scooter with a little kid.

The slide: I almost chickened out when I saw that they close you in and the bottom drops out. Quickly took another trip after the first. It was fantastic.

The Red Frog was really nice too.

I have been on the legend before she went into drydock . . . where is the Red Frog Pub located??

Deck 2, forward of the casino, on the port side. Used to be another bar / lounge there, but I don't remember what it was called.

I was there too! Mike Pack is the BEST CD ever! I agree limboman, he is awesome and I am not saying that lightly! This was my 23rd cruise!

He should be a full time CD and not an assistant! I will be sending John Heald a letter; Mike said that is the best way to give him a compliment.

I went to all the name that song and I laughed so hard! It was amazing! When they did the "jump" with the fish, I nearly cried I was laughing so hard! So, which one were you?

Yeah, this was our 10th on Carnival, we've done several on other lines and Mike was a cut above anyone we've had as CD before. Will look into sending John Heald a letter also.

I got to lead the head nodding during "Get Back" for the Beatles trivia, so I've got that going for me...

Haha, I remember you! I was with Susan...she was the one that would hold up her hand when she needed a hug! There were always 6 of us at the trivia. How can I post a video of that on here?
