grumpyjr88 Posted April 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2014 I recently bought some prescription goggles (finally!) and was wondering if it's okay to clean them with toothpaste to get the film off or would that scratch them? Is there a better method? Thanks!

Wreckdiver Posted April 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Be sure to use toothpaste not the gel. Then use an old toothbrush to scrub it, you won't hurt your mask. You may have to do this a couple of times.

Wreckdiver Posted June 14, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 14, 2014 Not stupid at all. Scrubbing the mask with toothpaste removes the silicone film from the manufacturing process. If you don't do that your mask will constantly fog up. You will still have to use defog on your mask every time you use it. I just spit in my mask but some people don't like doing that. Just get the cheapo Sea Drops. Make sure the mask is dry before using the defog. Squirt a little into the inside of each lens and rub it in with your finger, then rinse it. If you are not going to using your mask for a while fill it with water until you are ready to use it then rinse it. If you don't you will have to start over. FYI, if your mask still fogs up, it is probably because you are breathing thru your nose. This breaks the seal that causes it to fog up.
Griff4AU Posted June 16, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 16, 2014 Adding what was said above... toothPASTE... and not gel. The cheaper the better. Think Gleem. Ultrabrite... Nothing harsh or abrasive in there.. All you are trying to do is remove the film.
