Calkacky Posted April 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2014 Since "texting" between 2 iPhones is really messaging, can 2 people on a cruise do that without cost and with their iPhones in airplane mode?
Rare LittleMissMagic Posted April 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2014 In order to use iMessage, you need to be on wifi or data. iMessage does not work on airplane mode. You could purchase the ship's wifi and use iMessage.
Calkacky Posted April 12, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted April 12, 2014 That makes sense. Thanks!
Fitzget Posted April 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2014 (edited) Doesn't iMessage will work in airplane mode as long as you're connected to wifi? Sent from my iPhone using Forums Edited April 12, 2014 by Fitzget
TPFKAH Posted April 12, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2014 Airplane mode turns wifi off automatically.
Mrs CruisinCritter Posted April 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2014 You can turn wifi on while in airplane mode. That's what I do when we are in port so I can use free wifi without having my data or calling turned on to communicate with my mom back home if she keeps our son while we're gone. Cruiseaholichal Posted April 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2014 You don't have to be in aeroplane mode- just have data roaming turned off.
Mrs CruisinCritter Posted April 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2014 You don't have to be in aeroplane mode- just have data roaming turned off. That works too if you don't mind the possibility of getting phone calls. I use airplane mode with wifi enabled to avoid receiving phone calls too so we can avoid the cellular at sea charges along with the international roaming charges.
