trlagt Posted May 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2014 I see that ANA has flights from Los Angeles to both Narita and Haneda airports. Haneda is much closer to central Tokyo so would that be preferable? Thank you
patnlcc Posted May 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 2, 2014 Yes, it's much closer to the city. Narita requires a 30 to 40 minute train or bus ride to the city centre. If there are flights available, I'd go for Haneda.
BruceMuzz Posted May 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 2, 2014 Haneda is much closer to Tokyo than Narita. But Narita has much better transportation to and from the city. Haneda was recently renovated and is really nice. But bear in mind that most international flights from Haneda are very late at night or very early in the morning. At those hours, there are very few options for getting to and from the airport. An expensive taxi ride is usually the only viable option. If you are lucky to arrive/depart during the day, there is a monorail that takes you into the airport, several bus transfer companies, and 2 subway lines that you can ride if you can manage your suitcases. Narita is much larger, with many more transportation options - especially at early and late hours.
kirin Posted May 3, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2014 I am in the city, but always prefer to fly in and out of Narita for the reasons outlined by BruceMuzz. Kate
