Cozumel question if ship leaves & returns to us port travel documents?

I have a passport, but asking for a friend will they need a passport for Cozumel, Mexico. In case anything happen while off the ship on an excurison.

You should be fine with your ship's id and a drivers license. If you're on a ship sponsored excursion, ships wait for you. If you are on a private excursion, just make sure you are fully aware of any differences between ship time and local time. Keep a watch, not your cell phone, on ship time and look at getting back to the pier at the time listed in your ship's schedule of events. You should be able to get back to any of the piers from south beaches in 15-20 minutes, if not quicker.

You will get a lot of different answers to this one but we always take our PP with us off the ship. We keep them in our pockets. If we get thrown in Mexican jail I want to have my PP :D

Also if you miss the ship and must fly you will need PP..

If your question is; Will my friend be OK going to Cozumel on a cruise without a passport (just legal ID stuff), then the answer is yes. It's not required on a cruise in which you board and disembark in the US.

 

If you question is: Will my friend be OK if they miss the ship and/or have issues with authorities, or become ill or injured, or need to fly home? Then the answer would be no. Well it can be done eventually, but it's much easier if you have a passport.

 

We always carry our passports with us into the ports. Like the poster above said, you will get a lot of different opinions on this one.
