NCL Epic - From Cannes to Nice on our own

Hello! I hope I posted this in the correct forum... I will be cruising the Norwegian Epic next month around the Mediterranean and my future wife and I would like to travel on our own for the day to Nice when the ship ports in Cannes. Since Cannes is a tender port from what I saw, I would like to know if anyone who has taken the Epic can recommend the best time (or the only time?) to get off of the boat so that we can make our way to land and the Gare du Cannes, and also if this means we will have to get tender tickets early on the boat.

 

Also, I looked up the return timetables to Cannes, and saw there was a TGV leaving around 3:30 PM, arriving 4 PM, for about the same price as a TER if booked online. I'm guessing this will ensure that we get back to the ship for a 6 PM departure, but I'd like to ask for any comments about this.
