Majesty Bridge Tours

Recommended Posts

Hi, we did a tour of the bridge on Majesty last April, I think it was advertised in the Cruise News :) I think it was organised via reception, we booked it as soon as we heard about it as numbers were limited. If you go look out for the photos of the ship when they lengthened it, really interesting!

Hi,

Is there ever an opportunity to do a Bridge Tour on Majesty?

I know some ships do and some don't? I guess it's up to the captain?

If so, how do I go about organising it?

Thanks.

You can't organise it as such - after the Concordia disaster there are tighter regulations for having passenges on the bridge - the bridge tour, if available, will be announced in the Cruise News and will involve you getting a ticket from either reception or the Social Hostess or Future Cruises Advisor ( it will tell you in cruise news at the time who to see and at what time to see them ) and then there will be an escorted visit to the bridge at an agreed time on the ticket. It is at the discretion of the ship as to whether there is such a bridge tour - there tends to be one on most Thomson ships so the chances are there will be one but there is no guarantee it will take place on your cruise. Numbers will be limited for the bridge tour.

Hope that explains it a little more for you !

This is the system as we have experienced it in the past - but isn't there a new payable Bridge Tour being offered - at least on Dream if not the other ships? I realise that there is a lot more involved in the payable version - but are both the payable and shorter bookable (but free) events available? Or do you know if, where the new payable ones are being offered, the free ones have gone by the wayside?

On the Dream there is the behind the scenes tour which takes you to the Engine Room, the galley, the crew quarters etc etc but that costs £59 per person and I think it lasts just over an hour and includes a group cup of tea with the Captain at the end.The Captain does not lead the tour. I think the group briefly meets random other senior officers eg Chief Engineer and Staff Captain etc as you go around and obviously the Chef too. Obviously their presence is subject to operational needs so you can not request an exhaustive list of which officers you may meet. I believe this is only run when they get 10 passengers at £59 each and it takes place on a day whilst in port and not at sea. It runs subject to operational availability.

As for the standard Bridge Tours - on this TA crossing there were 2 arranged over the 3 weeks - one was in Ponta Delgado and the other whilst we were in Valencia and both took place in the early afternoon whilst the ship was in port.

Thanks for that - I wondered if the free ones were still available but clearly so.

We have done the free ones before but I'm sure we wouldn't have done them on a port day as we would have been off the ship - we never stay on board. Perhaps part of that tightening up you mentioned means now it can't be offered whilst underway. Understandable if so.

We did the bridge tour on the Dream in 2011 and it was while in port in Ajaccio. We went off the ship in the morning and did the tour around 1pm. (I only know this as I checked the times on my photos!:) Memory is not that good!)

I was on the Majesty only 4 weeks ago and honesty cannot remember if there was a bridge tour. It was not something I looked out for in the cruise news.

Well now you have a chance to check it out in a week or so - lucky you! :D;)

Did one years ago on the Destiny, was very informative.

They only have limited places so never bothered taking one of those places up from someone who has never had the opportunity before. If you know what I mean..

Just off Majesty, and there was a bridge tour Katakolon day. Cruise news just said to register on Deck 5 between 9 and 9.15 am, and there would be limited tickets for a morning tour. We were off ship at the port so couldn't go, so cannot comment on it as have never managed a tour yet.
