I was there this March with RCI's Jewel of the Seas; I did the tour "St.Pierre and Rum" which was nice, but I thought that it gave you not that much time to see the Depaz Rum Distillery and St.Pierre, and it's not that great value for the money you pay for...

I return this January with my parents and if you're a bit adventurous;

you could go on your own, as we will do it. I know it doable, as

a young couple on the Jewel did it.

There are public buses from the pier which go to St.Pierre.

The Depaz Rum Distillery is only a kilometre away from the center of town,

so we/you can do that as well by foot; the tour is free as I know of.

The other thing we have seen might be possible with the city public bus;

the Church which looks like Sacre Coeur in Paris and the Balata botanical garden.

Bring Euros in small domination...!

It's also nice to have some time to wander the city of Fort-de-France and try to catch a sight of one of the big lizards climbing the trees in the big park which is right beside the Fort.

Thank you onyx007 for your input. The St. Pierre and Rum tour is the one we have been looking at lately on Jewel OTS. Your info is very good and helpful. We have held off signing up for that ship tour as we felt that $80 was a little steep for a cruise line tour for 4 hours too (and they are generally not that good).....but we want to see some of Martinique and I am not sure we want to be that adventurous on an island that does not speak English nor deal in $$$??? Still trying to decide....we are disappointed in the lack of choices tho! :(
