Cozumel near ship

We will be on a cruise that stops in Cozumel this summer. We are currently considering various excursions, but are also considering anything to see/do (could include shopping) within walking distance of where the ship will be. For those who have been to Cozumel before, is this a safe area to wonder around alone (we have 2 daughters - ages 10 and 13) and if so, is there anything to see/do within a reasonable walking distance? Our daughters would not be wondering around alone, but we would be alone as a family unit.

Cozumel is totally safe. The problem is the different terminals require taking a taxi to downtown and other destinations. I am not a fan of the changes where different cruise lines now dock as compared to prior to the hurricane years ago.

There is shopping right by the cruise docks, along with some bars. It would seem a shame not to take your kids to a nice pay as you go beach , and the cab ride would be $16 each way for the four of you..If you have not been there before you would really miss out just hanging around the pier area..

Coz is very safe and tourist friendly - the USDollar is widely accepted, so do not bother changing money into pesos.

Ditto above comments. Agree on price of taxi BEFORE getting in. Paradise beach or mr sanchos or chankanaab are great places for the kids and parents. Wonderful place! Just don't rent mopeds!!
