We have booked a repo cruise in Feb. 2015. We leave out of Ft Lauderdale but will end in Galvaston. I have never been to Texas and know very little about Galvaston. We would like to stay a couple days after the cruise. I would appreciate advice on a nice place to stay and places to see:confused:.

First thing to know is that Mardi Gras is from Feb. 6 to Feb. 17, 2015. Hotels will require a minimum number of nights and be more expensive.

Second: Check out Galveston.COM for hotels and things to do; always a lot in February - actually all the time:D

Also look at galvestonhistory.org

Downtown hotels are The Tremont and Harbor House, numerous ones on Seawall. Also Bed & Breakfasts and resort rentals; numerous websites list these.

There is a tremendous amount of history in Galveston so have fun discovering and planning before your cruise.

Check tripadvisor.com for things to do in Galveston. For years, we've intended to go to Moody Gardens and have never made it. A few weeks ago, our friends did go and had such a good time! Other hotels are Galvez, Hilton, Hampton and Sheraton Four Points and are all located across the street from the water. The Hampton is next to Wal-Mart which is nice for last minute purchases.

A few weeks ago, we stayed at Four Points using Starwood points. This was our 3rd stay and it was nice, quiet and clean. And, free. Breakfast runs about $10 pp and is very good. The breakfast at the Hampton is free but very limited, high carb choices. No eggs. And, here's a great link showing the location of cruise port hotels: http://www.pre-cruisehotels.com
