msmeltz Posted May 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2014 Can anyone who has been on the Getaway give us some comments on the restaurants. Which ones were great, not so great, worth the price etc.? How was the food in the Illusionarium? What kind of food did they serve? Were there any other shows besides the ones we made reservations for? Thanks

Were there any other shows besides the ones we made reservations for? Thanks I am a big Le Bistro fan, but it just wasn't good this time. My husband didn't enjoy his either. Of course it could have just been an off night. The food in the MDR - Tropicana - was awesome. Usually MDR food is just ok ... it was really good this time! Cagney's is always worth the price, IMO. The raw bar is delish. Ate oysters there just about every night. Same with the sushi. Edited May 16, 2014 by SissasMomE
saxgirl84 Posted May 17, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2014 Tropicana Room was great, Moderno was well worth it, Illusionarium was good as well. I was expecting bad food based off of some of the reviews... Sushi was delicious and very comparable to prices I pay at home. The sushi bar was pretty empty when we sat down and within 10 min, there was a line. O'sheehans had typical pub fare, the fish and chips were decent. The chicken pot pie was very good, but I loved the spinach artichoke dip. I usually just ordered that and chicken fingers or mozzarella sticks as my whole meal... msmeltz Posted May 18, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted May 18, 2014 I heard that all of the free dining rooms have the same food. Is that wrong info?
Erik101 Posted May 18, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 18, 2014 Just got off the Getaway and here are my thoughts: Good and excellent restaurants - 1st pick is Cagney's. Had the Wagyu sliders, 8 oz filet and raspberry creme brûlée. It didn't disappoint! 2nd pick is Le Bistro. I don't remember the name of the appetizer but it was served in 4 waffle cones. Let's just say it was unique. 3rd is La Cucina - you can't go wrong with Italian. Illusionarium - the meal was a surf and turf. The shrimp was good since it was breaded but the beef sucked! It was supposed to be a steak but it tasted like a roast that lacked flavor! After the show, we went to the buffet because we were still hungry. Ocean Blue - the food wasn't that great! I had the lobster risotto and while they were generous with the lobster, the risotto had too much salt. My partner had the scallops with pork bellies. The pork was not edible but the scallops were excellent. Savor and Taste for lunch (MDR restaurants) - I would go here instead of the buffet. I found the menu had a good choice. Restaurants have their menu outside on the wall so you can see what they're serving before you go in.
Erik101 Posted May 18, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 18, 2014 (edited) Oh, I forgot one other restaurant: the Chef's Table. This was excellent and perhaps the highlight meal of our cruise. It's a NINE course meal paired with wine. You are seated with 11 others in a private room and the executive chef explained all the dishes. The presentation was incredible! Caveats about this restaurant: 1) Pace yourself because it's a lot of food. 2) The price is $99 per person and is not included with the ultimate dining plan. Luckily for us, I won enough $$ at the casino to pay for all of our specialty meals. :D Edited May 18, 2014 by Erik101
starhorse Posted May 18, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 18, 2014 Just got off the Getaway yesterday. I definitely recommend Cagney's. The filet mignon was excellent. Plus you can get as many sides as you want. After reading everyone's reviews before we left I was expecting the Illusionarium food to be horrible, but I was pleasantly surprised. The shrimp in the surf and turf was very good. You will probably be hungry later, but the show was great and I thought was worth the price. DDD06 Posted May 18, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 18, 2014 I heard that all of the free dining rooms have the same food. Is that wrong info? Not necessarily. Some nights the Taste/Savor menu may be different from Tropicana. The "always available" selections will be the same among all 3. bktich Posted May 18, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 18, 2014 Just got off the Getaway. Loved Cagneys, we went twice. Had the filet and truffle chicken...both were very good. La Lucina was my 2nd favorite and Le Bistro was good. The Mussels at Le Bistro were very yummy. We ate most of our breakfast and lunch at Garden Cafe. Did not care for Flamingo at all. Loved the Lobster tail at Garden Cafe on 2nd night. Moderno was my least favorite and would skip next time. Enjoy
kapoho2 Posted May 20, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 20, 2014 We also just got off the Getaway and liked the food very much. One thing that no one has mentioned yet is the prime rib at O"Sheehan's. They do this special on two different evenings I believe. It was a huge inch thick slice of prime rib, perfectly cooked to the medium rare I ordered. It came with a baked potato and corn on the cob. It was delicious and my husband was sorry he had not ordered it. They will advertise this special in the Freestyle Daily and on posters around the ship. There are also other special evenings.....ribs night and fried chicken night. Didn't get to try them, unfortunately.
