FYI-Blood donations

Just gave platelets and got the lowdown on giving blood after visiting Belize. If you travel to Belize you are deferred for one year after travel from giving blood products. The only exception is Belize City. You may give if you have only visited Belize City. So if you stay within the city limits you are cleared to give. The regulations that I read were dated 6/29/05 and are Federal regulations so the rules don't vary by state. Hope this helps anyone that likes to give life and give blood! :)

How nice of you, Okiemom. Where did you have to go to do that? Did you pre-plan it with someone. Since you apparently just went there, is it safe to take a taxi outside the tourist center and to see a little of the city/ go to give blood? I hear some people say Belize is not safe outside the tourist center. Basically, is it any worse than other C. American countries?? Thanks.....
