num1crewsfam Posted May 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 27, 2014 Recently off Indy and traveled with MIL who is in a wheelchair. She had no issues at all. Was in a JS on Deck 10 that was handicap accessible. Bathroom was huge and very easy to maneuver in. Shower was a roll in. There was a built in ramp that folded up and down to access the HUGE balcony. Getting in the dinning areas was no problem. Here's a tip on the elevators...she usually just went to where she was going a bit early so there was little to no waiting to get to where she needed to be. On the rare occasion that there was a huge crowd waiting to go down to dinner, she would push the up button instead of down, an elevator came almost immediately, she'd ride up, hit the down button and get to where she needed to be ;-) Much quicker to ride up two floors to get down 5 :D
cb at sea Posted May 28, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2014 If the wheelchair bound person can't walk at all, do book an HC cabin...it's specifically designed for wheelchair useage. Most normal cabins won't accomodate the wheelchair through the door, unless it's folded up.
num1crewsfam Posted May 28, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2014 My MIL and FIL have done two world cruises with Crystal and 20+ other cruises with them as well. My MIL has no mobility at all, and they said the room they had on Indy was by far the best handicapped room they had ever had on a ship. Kudos to Royal for providing such a wonderfully appointed accessible room!
