Did you get a price drop?

Seven cruises with Carnival since September of 2011. With the exception of the first cruise which was a guarantee and the Magic 2013 which was a cove all the rest have been 8B's. Price drops ranged from $0 to $700 on the five 8Bs. Drops started about 5 months before sailing.

There was a very small price drop on the cove but that was to be expected as there are a limited number of coves.

Happy Cruising.

Thanks. DH was checking with our PVP today and was told we got a price drop for the July cruise which is about 45 days out at this point. I had let DH know about the price reduction for our June cruise and although we'd already made our final payment a nd weren't SUPPOSED to get a price drop reimbursement, he managed to sweet talk the PVP into it. :)

We booked our June 2013 Magic Cruise in July of 2012. Our first price drop, about $120, came in January or February. We then got a huge price drop of $1200 probably in response to decrease demand due to the Triumph floating around in the Gulf for 3-4 days. We then got another one about 3 weeks later, maybe $150 or so. Again I think that was due to the Triumph. This was for a Cloud 9 Balcony that sleeps 4...not a huge number of those cabins on that ship. Overall price drop was from just over $5100 down to just under $3700.

But yeah, you have to keep checking. You can drive yourself crazy checking every day though. Some here enjoy that. I did not check everyday, but rather 4-5 times per month.

Realize pricing can be all over the board. Just yesterday, during our planning for our 2014 cruise, the price for the same cabin on the same cruised changed over $200 inside to 90 minutes. I never would believe they were that dynamic if I had not seen it myself.

On my upcoming June cruise I had an inside inside (down the little middle hallway) and got an upgrade this week to a balcony with $139 OBC

Ya have to watch those price drops, today the balcony had gone up $220 from where it was two days ago.

I will probably check every day. Last time I had an 8B and it didn't drop a penny and I checked all the time.

You sure got lucky, though! Nice savings on a spa!

About 65 days out on the Pride in 6232, one of the bowling alley deck cabins and got a $8 price drop that came with a $50 on board credit. Was on the computer the next day and thought, will since I'm on I'll check again. The price had dropped again $200 and the $50 OBC, shocked me but I'm glad I checked because I checked again today, 2 days later and the price went up $11 (haha).

It's the Military Appreciation they put out for Memorial Day, supposed to be a month and it is still up

Booked in June 2013 for a July 2014 cruise on the Breeze. Four rooms. Inside cabin has $560 OBC. Balcony for 2 has $1060. Balcony for 4 has $2216. Ocean suite has $ 618. This is all in addition to the original price drop of between $200 to $900 before we paid it off that didn't go as OBC. I'm guessing we just booked too early and too high, but I also watch the prices a lot. It has been fun. My poor PVP. He has been awesome. Early saver is the way to go.

Thanks, everyone, for your input! I hope I get lucky with a price drop, too! I am reeling at the price I am getting for my booking because this is the highest we have ever paid per night and are hoping we can get it down a bit.

DH always pays in full when we book, does this make a difference in whether we can take advantage of a price drop? Should we wait till closer to the time of the cruise to pay it off?

IF you book early saver you can get price drops up to two days before sailing. If booked other rates price drops until final payment date. If you have paid you cruise in full you get OBC and if payment pending the balance is reduced.

Thank you so much for clarifying that! I would be thrilled for the OBC. I think we could manage to spend it :D

Thanks everyone! I hope I can figure out all the little things that will make it possible for me to save some money. I'm still a little confused about how these drops work each time, like how it can change with different promotions and when I am on the other side of 5 months, am I no longer early saver? if I take a drop, can it change my status?? They should put out a handbook on just how to get the most out of this. Last cruise I booked with a casino rate, I think, but not as far in advance as this time.

Booked two 8D cat staterooms in October for a June '14 cruise and so far we are up to $800 OBC between the two rooms!!

WOW! Nice....Did you book early saver?

Yes, booked early savers! 15 more days until we sail! Woohoo! I'm still checking prices every day for more price drops! Not counting on it but you never know!

On our CCL 6 night Freedom Cruise last August we booked 2 connecting OV rooms in December for a total of $3240 for 5 people. We had about 6-8 different price drops between the time we booked and the time we sailed totaling $830. We upgraded to 2 connecting balconies and still saved $430 from what we originally booked 2 connecting ocean views at.
