Newton or Brookline B&B?

We will be sailing out of Boston for a Canada/New England cruise and will spend 3 days either pre or post cruise to do some sightseeing. We are thinking of staying at a b&b in the Newton/Brookline area and taking the T into the city. Is this a good idea? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Could you provide more details? Exact dates? Name of the B&B's? Price of the B&B's including tax? Will you have a car? If so, what are your cruise parking plans? If not, how are you getting to Boston?

 

Have you looked at the John Jeffries House in Boston?

Our cruise isn't until September 2015, so we are just starting to gather information. We would like to keep our hotel costs under $300 a night if possible The John Jeffries House looks perfect, thanks so much for the suggestion.

If you are flying in, you can take the free Silver Line from Logan

Airport to South Station. At South Station you can either transfer to the Red Line direction Alewife via elevator and go to Charles MGH, which has an elevator, or you can take the elevator to the street at South Station and get a cab to John Jeffries for less than half the cost of a cab from the airport.

 

When Sep 2014 rolls around, call the John Jeffries and make a reservation. There are a lot of college activities in Sep and some dates are very busy and very pricey.

Newton and Brookline are both nice towns on the Green Line. If you are not going to have a car, check the distance to the nearest Green Line stop or bus line. You can definitely get around Boston easily via mass transit but it's often awkward to do it while trying to tote a cruise's worth of luggage!

 

September is usually mild weather though typically too early to see the leaves change in the city. Late September can be tough to find a hotel because of all the colleges and their Parent's weekend activities (plus they claim leaf peepers) but a budget of $300 ought to be enough to get something nice in the locations you are looking at.
