dansko shoes/clogs for possible rain days

Recommended Posts

For Alaska - I have these shoes from my very brief re-entry to clinical nursing - so they were good for being on my feet 10-12 hours a day. They should be water proof. I really do not want to spend money on hiking boots/shoes that I won't wear again. These are fairly slip resistant. My alternative is a just above ankle high roper style boot but I'm not sure they would do for the longer shopping walks. I have very comfortable walking shoes - but they're mesh uppers and won't do for rainy days.

I thought the same thing for hiking in Iceland. I wear my Dansko clogs daily for work and in the winter for general walking purposes. My children convinced me to get a low cut hiking shoe and I was grateful to them as the clogs would not have been good on the steep trails. They were not terribly expensive and almost look like a sneaker. If you are sightseeing in a town on a rainy day the clogs will be fine. I have to admit to a fear of falling! Perhaps you are more coordinated!!

those clogs are comfy for flat surface walking - but if I wanted to go anywhere off a sidewalk I would also feel unstable. I hate to buy something else - I still need gloves and a suitcase [because mine is UGLY] and...and....and

I really need to ramp up my walking at home, not just for the cruise so I guess I'll go to Academy and check out the hiking shoes. With 29 days to go, I better get some and make sure they are comfy.

Unless you are planning to do significant hiking , most of Alaska can be done just fine in a good pair of running shoes and or easy wearing shoes,

I have been there 4 times and never once packed hiking boots, but then again, I did not hiking but have seen most of the sights and done some excursions.

I would spray your shoe with a water repellent spray and you should be fine,

Have another pair of shoes in case they do get wet to wear on board, otherwise why spend a lot of money on shoes/boots you may never wear again !!

A good pair of waterproof lower cut hiking shoes is always in my wardrobe. I take them on cruises where I will be more active (i.e., traveling with DH rather than with Mom), I use them for walking the dogs in the winter, I've never regretted having a pair. I love Vasque brand, and you can find them at Zappos among other places.

For my upcoming Norwegian Fjord cruise, I got these, as Mom and I do minimal walking other than my walks around the Promenade Deck. These are actually made for gardening and are AMAZINGLY comfortable, even worn over bare feet. I think they'll be fine and they were really reasonable on Amazon. They are called sloggers. They come in a couple of dozen colors and patterns. I have a thing for pawprints.
