Canada/New England on Splendour

I currently have this trip booked for early Sept; first time headed "north" on a cruise. I think the leaves will just be starting to turn, depending on the weather in the Northeast. Wife/I have been to upstate Vermont and Maine, plus in Acadia. So, we have some idea of how the cruise will be. Looking forward to the two Canadian ports. I'm thinking this can be a yearly cruise since there are lots of things wife/I are interested in.

Wife/I always book an inside room... If we want to see the sights from the boat, we go up on deck. Always a spot to look out and admire the views.

September is actually the best time to do this run. There's a lesser chance of fog, cause the Gulf Stream is generally at its warmest, and doesn't clash with the air. You will find it's also warmer in general, unless something powerful is coming down from the north.

My first time, I was a bit ignorant, and packed warm clothes for cooler temps, and expected to see some serious fall foliage. WRONG! The Maritimes actually change a lot later than say Maine. So that's out.

The only downside to this itinerary is that it always "feels"!different. Can't place my finger in it, but Inhave found I am not alone. I like it however as it's a quick 4 or 5 day getaway. We have yet to have done it in the Spendor.

We've done the Canada itinerary once in September on the Victory and had good weather for the most part. They call it a fall foliage cruise, but there wasn't any fall foliage to be seen. Maybe that happens in October. It was actually pretty warm in Canada. We had a balcony and enjoyed it. We've also sailed on the Splendor and liked it enough to book it again for this October. We thought the food was very good and the crew and entertainment staff did a good job. Also, there's a retractable roof over the lido pool so even if the weather isn't the greatest, you can still enjoy that area.

I'm thinking the early Sept cruise the leaves will still mostly be green. But those can be just as inspiring in the right light. Based on the future weather averages, it looks like 70s during the day and 50s at night. So will plan for that now and as the days get closer, look at the forecast more closely.

I can understand how it "feels differently" since on a cruise ship, you think of being in the hot, sunny climes of the Caribbean. Will be testing this in 3 months when I step on the Splendor.

Yeah a couple of days, it's an hour flying time from either airport.

Not sure if you've ever been to Niagara Falls, but wife/I went there a few years ago and stayed on the Canadian side. Our hotel room faced "ALL" of the falls. And at night, they lit up the falls. Was awesome.

So glad to have read this thread, as there are not too many on Northern sailings. We are booked for Sept 6th, and I can wait. We are ready for something different, having sailed south on all our cruises. The biggest change for us will be NOT "swimming" at the ports. Instead we are ready to sight see, take many many pictures and enjoy the cooler weather.

Hey Sasa, wife/I are also booked on the 6th... agree with about the no swimming part :) But about the pictures, already do that... just came back from 4 days in Yosemite and took over 1500. Digital cameras are great.

My husband is the photo buff, he is excited about our "new adventure", and is ordering all types of gadgets for his camera's. Also, as long as there is a casino on board, he is happy... Yesemite--wow, that must have been fantastic. We have never been, but hopefully, someday we will make it there. See you on board :) I noticed there is not a role call for our sailing, I just checked again this morning....

One of the things I like about my camera (Canon SX50), I don't need to carry "all of the gadgets". :) It is self contained and is close to a DSLR. Some qualities I could use the DSLR but for 95% of what I photograph, not worth the extra cost or weight. This camera is much more than the standard point-shoot.

Have been to a lot of the National Parks out west. Potentially retiring out that way.

There is a roll call... Just worded a bit different:

I am seriously giving some thought to taking this cruise in September 2015.

Even though I live in Canada (Ottawa ON), it has been a long time since I have been to the east coast. I love Halifax and I really want to go to Maine.

It is a long way off, but I suppose I could put a downpayment down. The price of the cruise I am looking at doesnt look bad even this far in advance.

Done it on the Glory twice, a 5 day with Halifax and Saint John and 4 day just with Saint John and now I am on the Splendor in 28 days on the 4 day over the July 4th weekend. Balcony cabins on the Glory, currently in an inside for price.

First time July on the Glory Fog did come into play both going and coming. We were rushed off the Bridge on the Behind the Fun Tour since you couldn't even see the bow. While under fog conditions you actually have a sailor with hands on the ship's wheel ready to make that last minute turn...

The 2nd late August we had fog but not as bad. The balcony was usable when the fog was not that bad. Of course the Pink Ship can close the top over the middle of the Lido deck which would be a plus on this itinerary over the Glory.

FWIW
