Disembarkation excursion

When we disembark a river cruise, does the cruise line has a disembarkation excursion which ended at the airport? Either free or for a fee?

We have not booked our cruise yet. Just trying to understand how so we can plan accordingly.

Thank you for insights.

We've sailed with Viking in the past and have another planned in 2 weeks.

Both had pre and post excursions on offer. If you check their website they will note the excursions for each different cruise.

We did not do in the past nor are we doing upcoming as we found we could do extensions cheaper on our own as well as doing what we wanted specifically.

It seems to me that what you're asking about is an airport transfer, not an excursion.

If you're just looking to get from the ship to the airport, you need a transfer. All cruise lines seem to provide them if you book your air through them. Some offer them for free (or a fee) if you purchase air on your own. We have a Uniworld cruise scheduled for September, and we'll get a free transfer from the airport to the ship even though we booked our own air because we arrive within their designated window.

Yes, ewizabeff, and thank you.

I am asking for airport transfer, but not straight transfer from the boat to the airport. I am hoping they have a city tour prior to dropping us at the airport, so at least we will see a highlights of the disembarkation city before leaving the country.

Any such tour?

You may want to look at the day-to-day itinerary for the specific cruise you're interested in. The Uniworld itineraries I'm familiar with will actually dock in the last city the day prior to disembarkation and offer a tour, then you sleep in port that night and go from boat to airport the next day.

Depends on the cruise line, I think - and the end point on your cruise.

When we travlled with Scenic last September, we ended in Nuremberg - although most went on to Prague as part of the package. We did get a city tour, and then people (if they were leaving that day) were taken to the airport - the rest were taken onward. If you were leaving from Nuremberg, they asked that your flight not leave before 3 pm.

That is the only time it has happened with us. As people leave at different times, it is not easy to set up an excursion on the day you leave.

If you have a late flight, you can ask about leaving your luggage on board, and then do some sightseeing on your own. On our 1st Scenic cruise, all people were off the boat at 9 am. If it was too early to go to the airport, you were taken to a host hotel until your transfer time came up. We were able to see the Dutch Resistance Museum on our last morning, as our plane didn't leave until late afternoon.

Neither our Viking cruise last year, nor our upcoming have disembarkation city tours.

It would be easy to arrange yourselves by finding a city tour company and you could leave your luggage on the ship.
