Sail and Sign charging Question

Hello all we are leaving on the Breeze next Saturday. My mom is retired and on limited income. Our departure date is 2 says before her check is deposited to her account. She is nervous that she won't have enough on her debit card for whatever amount carnival holds/charges on day one. Can I just connect her on board account to my CC until that Monday and then she can go and change all her charges over to her debit card at Guest Services when her check deposits?

Thanks in advance I hope my question makes sense.

With her being on limited income, you also need to consider if her budget can stretch if the combination of her bank and Carnival causes the holds on her account to sit for a week or more after she returns home. If that happens she could find twice what she spent held out of her account until the holds expire.

If it were me I'd leave it on my credit card and have her transfer funds to me when we got home.

Good idea.

I agree with this solution! My daughter and I will be leaving tomorrow for a 12 day trip which includes a 7 day cruise to Alaska and that is what we are doing. Another solution would be for her to deposit enough cash on the account to cover any expenses for the first 4 days if she knows her check will cover all her automatic bills and the holds that may be instituted after that.

This is a good idea...only if I could do this without her knowledge...she tends to spend more when she thinks she can pay me back later :D

I think this is what we will do and who knows if she keeps it in check maybe in the end I can say don't worry about it. I love when I can do that.

Given that holds on Debit cards may not drop off until 10+ days after you have disembarked, would it be possible for your mom to utilize your sail and sign account for the duration of the cruise ? You can get an independent statement by portfolio number (for anything she specifically has charged), total the amounts, and then she can pay you in cash the day your cruise ends ?

Certainly would not like to see her be in the position where automatic payments, or necessary bills were not able to be processed due to a hold on her bank account.

Speaking from experience; holds must be released by your bank, not Carnival.

Wishing you a fabulous cruise !

:D I agree with this. with using a debit card her account could be frozen for a long time when she gets home.

Make sure she is calling the bank and lifting any restrictions on her card.

Your tips will be charged out the 2nd day

(last cruise I only spent 5. bucks.)

have her be careful with the sign and sail card in the casino--

This is what we did for my mother in law. She just paid us back when she got home.

I've done it that same way, and left it on my card. You'll see her charges on your bill with her Folio number, so make sure you look at her sign & sail card to make note of her Folio number. I highlight each Folio charges in different colors, then give a total to each person for them to pay me.

You can just tell her it accidentally got left on your card, and her total is $xxx.xx to pay you back.

Have fun on the cruise!

What about just having your mom put cash on her Sail and Sign account? That way there won't be any holds on her account and she'll know exactly how much she has spent and how much more she has to spend. When you or she fills out the online check-in, the choices of credit card or cash are available. Click on cash, then proceed with the process at embarkation.
