Flying out the day of CrUiSe...?!?

Is it doable? Sure.

However, the one time we did it, our initial flight was delayed, but our connecting flight was not. Had to run across O'Hare to catch that flight before it departed without us. Had we missed it, we would have missed the ship, but it all worked out. But once we finally made it, it took me several hours to de-stress. So, never again for me. I'd rather get a good night's sleep and get to the ship early.

I may be in the minority here, but when i have had to fly to a cruise port, i've always flown out the same day and have never had a problem. Granted, it has been a while since that has happened and like other posters have said, there are problems that could arise that could possibly make you miss the cruise. Thank goodness Baltimore is only about an hour drive for me, so flying may be out of the question for me for a while. :-)
