Bad time at the steak house on the Liberty

It seems to be hit or miss with the steakhouse on the Magic.

The first time was amazing.

The next time was horrible.

Steaks were cooked med rare when we requested well done.

They were taken back 3 times, yes 3 times. Finally go the steak

cooked well but the outside of the steak was charred black.

I didn't eat it. I asked to speak to the manager and all he offered

was to replace the steak. But at this point we had spend 2 hrs

and had other activities planned for the rest of the night.

The manager didn't adjust my bill (for the steak not eaten) nor

did he offer to have us come back at another time/day.

This time we also had a lot of trouble with service, drinks ordered

and not brought to the table. All we wanted was ice tea.

The next 2 visits to the steakhouse were good.

You just never know when you will have that bad experience.

But it didn't keep us from eating there,. We still go every cruise.

Just back from the Liberty and now they let you order some steakhouse steaks in the DR.

Only problem is they delivered the wrong steak to several people we met on the ship. Apparently quite a few people need an education on what various steaks look like.

Do they charge you more for Steakhouse steaks in the MDR?

they charged a $20.00 premium if ordered from the MDR menu. They offered a 9 oz filet, ribeye, and surf and turf. I have had dinner at the Liberty steakhouse 4 times.....3 great - one terrible!!! Steak was inedible. Chef apologized for fatty/sinewy mess....but they still charged me in full :(

Actually I think this is fairly common in upscale restaurants. Under or over cooking a steak effects flavor and since a chef wants to give you a flavorful meal, they often suggest cooking a certain cut a certain way.

English isn't the first language for many of the servers so perhaps a something was a bit lost in translation.

And no overcooking a prime cut of filet mignon will not get you a tender steak, it will get you a ruined prime piece of meat.

I have seen this. Something to the effect of "we suggest medium rare" or cooked to medium rare unless otherwise requested. I don't see a problem with suggestions. I have heard stories (so take that for what is worth) of people of have said that a chef refused to cook a steak a certain way. That I don't agree with unless its food safety reasons/health regulations.

Personally I can't eat overcooked steak, even if it is a "good cut." I like my meat medium rare to medium. But it seems like most places cook over that so if I ask for medium, I get med well or well done. SO I just ask for med rare, unless its a good steakhouse.

No... I did not say that.

I'm not that type of person. I did go to guest services and I told the lady I had something to tell her, I then told her up front before I explained what happen to me that I was not asking for anything and that I did not want anything, I said I just want to tell you my experience.

When I said I wished they had offered another dinner on a different night I meant that I kinda wished the manager would have come to the table and said something like "Why don't we try this again tomorrow or the next day I can book this for you right now , I'm sure your next experience will be up to your standards, as for today, you will not be charged"

And this didn't ruin anything for me or my wife... we had a great time.

I think this was an anomaly, everyone has bad days.

They kinda just left it with "you won't be charge today, sorry"

I can so relate to this. One year my partner and I sailed many times onboard THE CARNIVAL CONQUEST. After a couple of cruises, we went to the Steakhouse and were very disappointed. The food was probably okay, but the service was just not acceptable. We did not even stay for the entire meal. We swore off the Steakhouse and as we continued on several back to backs expressed our displeasure to table mates considering going. Finally, I believe at the generosity of the casino, we tried it again. There hd been aa crew change. It was FANTASTIC. On a later cruise solo on The CARNIVAL CONQUEST I dined in the Steakhouse the first night and received the free bottle of wine. Had such a good time by myself I dined there every night except for the night I went to the Chef's Tasting Dinner. Now I always give the Steakhouse a try. Any restaurant can have a bad night. Sometimes you have to cut your losses. But keep an open mind and give them another try. Of all the cruise lines I have been on, the Carnival Steakhouses rank on the top of the al a carte dining venues.
