doublej Posted June 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2014 With no excursions planned in Belize, we are just planning on exploring the Tourism Village area in a few weeks. What can anyone tell me about the Moho Chocolate Factory, Tourism Village, and the small markets just outside the gates?
Rare crewsweeper Posted June 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2014 The Tourism Village is the name for the pier area where the tenders dock. It has the typical cruise port vendors and a Made In Belize store (which may or may not have items strictly from Belize) some restaurants of which Wet Lizard is the most popular but there are a couple of smaller places like Thirsty Pirate, with free wifi if you buy something that have good food and service. Moho Choclate is located there as well. For a nominal sum $2-$5(?), you get a "tour " of how they make their chocolates and a selection of 2 or 3 of their chocolate bars. They also have good milkshakes. Most of the shops in the TV have somewhat limited selections and are overpriced relative to stores outside the TV. Plus the vendors tend to have a hawker stand out side to entice you into their shop. Across the street from the TV is a small crafts market selling locally made items at lower prices than in the TV and perhaps more or at least some different things than in the TV. The bug-a-boo about the crafts market from many cruisers is that you have to wade through the independent excursion hawkers who can be a bit aggressive or intimidating in order to reach the crafts market. However, if you wander over there after noon say, there'll be fewer excursion hawkers out because most excursions are out. Carriage rides/city tours excepted. vacruizer Posted July 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2014 We really enjoyed Moho. It's a small shop. The "tour" isn't really what you are expecting, but more of a five minute, one on one explanation of the chocolate making process along with samples. Still worth the $2 each and our guide was really enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I thought the chocolate was some of the best I've had. Some folks I brought some home to didn't like it, though. We also enjoyed the small bar outside - I love the combination of beer and chocolate so I go to enjoy Belikan with their chocolate. :)
scrapycruiser Posted March 4, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2015 I mainly like Hershey's chocolate. Will I be disappointed ? How would you compare the two ?
