Carnival Policy (Non-Wedding) Policy Changes

Recommended Posts

I know a few of you are in the beginning stages of planning and selecting cruise lines, so I thought I'd give you the heads up that Carnival has a big policy change coming up. The company is following RCI and Princess and apparently banning smoking on balconies beginning October 9th, 2014. I'm not a smoker and welcome the change, but I know that I might've had issues with a few of my smoking guests. I know two of them would've cancelled and two would've been grumbly for 7 days. There's a ten page thread over on the Carnival boards.

They're confirming the new regulations around noon today, according to the line's brand ambassador.

SO does that mean there is no smoking period?!?! I'm a non smoker but most of my family and guest (including my Fiancé) smoke...how miserable they would all be...

They're announcing the changes shortly, but the letter from Vicky Rey says that there will be designated spots (just like there are now), plus parts of the casino and casino bar.

The official statement is "guests will no longer be permitted to smoke outside on their balcony. However, smoking will still be allowed in designated open deck areas, as well as our night club and in certain areas within the casino and casino bar."

They're also raising gratuities $.50 a day, but the smoking change is the one that's blowing up. My brother and father-in-law were fine leaving their rooms to smoke, but our friends would've been miserable to deal with for the week. They booked a balcony just so they could smoke. Here's a scan of the letter.

I presented it to him as it would make traveling by car and air so much easier along with it would be a shame if he had to miss out on fun because he has to trek to the casino to smoke. :) So I bought him one to try and now he takes it when we go out or to friends houses where no one smokes.
