San Andres Island

We're on the Mariner next week from Ft Lauderdale to LA. One of the ports of call is San Andres Island. We're only there for three hours and no excursions are shown.

I have a number of questions.

1. Is there anything there worthwhile seeing as we're only there from 4pm-7pm.

2. Is it a 'real' stop or is it done for some form of 'admin' or 'legal' reason.

3. If anyone has been there on RSSC for such a short period, is it actually possible to go ashore. It'll mean tendering and by the time they've set up the tender operation and then closed it down at the end, it won't leave much time actually operating.

Just wondered if anyone had any pearls of wisdom to share on this subject.

Lee,

The stop is a basically for "legal" reasons (Jones Act, I think). That said we arrived a few hours earlier than anticipated (about 3) so the Captain (Navigator) set up tender service. Turns out there is some reasonable snorkeling (heresay, not personal experience) within walking distance to the Tender landing we enjoyed a cab ride around the island with a short shopping stop in the main city. But you are completely at the mercy of the schedule. We didn't know we were going to be at San Andreas for 6 hours until 0730 that morning and since RSSC doesn't pipe announcements into your suite, we would have slept through if we hadn't been up on deck early.
