And I actually agree about *not* having lifeguards on duty. Parents would just see them as a babysitting service, making the cruise line liable should something occur.

Does anyone know why they do that with the pools?

If they have enough space on either side of the pool for 3 inches of water why can't they do a 4 or 5 foot surround so that it is actual usable swim able space?

 

Weight. Water is heavier than air and if you had to fill up that entire space (instead of the top 3 inches) with water, that would increase the weight of the ship considerably. Not to mention you've now got to process and filter all that water
