barcelona to rome

Nobody here can tell you if you can succesfully arrange that or not. As there are no 3-night Barcelona-Civitavecchia cruises available, you will need to book two B2B 7-night cruises anyway so you will miss four days that you have paid for.

There have been reports here about people leaving the ship early for example in the Caribbean, but those have been arranged with NCL in advance. What comes to EU and Schengen Area, you are already inside Schengen Area when embarking from Barcelona so there are no EU directives that would prevent disembarking in Italy and there shouldn't be any national limitations either.

Why not just complete the cruise as scheduled and just take a train or fly to Rome and spend some time?

If you debark in Rome you will lose cruise days that you paid for anyway there is no savings doing that

You could embark in Rome on Oct 15th 2014 and do a 7 night cruise followed by a 3 night cruise from Rome to Barcelona. This is not usually possible but the Epic will be heading away on its transatlantic after this. This is why they have the shorter cruise on offer.
