gills50 Posted August 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2014 Just returned from 2 weeks on the Majesty. Ship was full, yet there were plenty of sunbeds - even on days at sea! In fact it was deck space that was at a premium to fit your sunbed on. A refreshing change.

It made us wonder if the ship was full!

Broughton Posted August 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2014 There were certainly plenty free when the heavens opened in Dubrovnik :-) That was some storm. Agree with the OP though. Could always find a sunbed when I wanted one.
gills50 Posted August 11, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) It was a cracker of a storm in Dubrovnik. There was also one late afternoon in Athens the following week. Edited August 11, 2014 by gills50
WeeCountyMan Posted August 11, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 11, 2014 "In fact it was deck space that was at a premium to fit your sunbed on." Is that not essentially the same problem as lack of sunbeds ?
davecttr Posted August 11, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 11, 2014 I would rather they had chairs than sunbeds. I can get onto one OK but getting off.......!

Did the ship dock near enough to DIY , or better to do a ship tour.
gills50 Posted August 12, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted August 12, 2014 We actually had rain in the afternoon but otherwise hot and sunny in Venice. It's easy DIY. We got the waterbus just a short walk from the ship which drops off close to st marks. Very busy on return journey so leave plenty of time. Did the ship dock near enough to DIY , or better to do a ship tour. Weather was great in Venice which made it rather hot for all the walking we did. All worth it as it was a lovely place. Started to rain just as we got back to ship. We did the full day Venice on your Own tour which cost around £24 each. That's because we were wary about getting back to the ship. However as there did not appear to be any check on number of people returning on the designated waterbus and we were told we could come back independently if we wished it was not really a safety net. So going it alone is probably just as easy as long as you allow plenty time to get back to the ship.

After threatening rain it was nice and sunny in Venice when I was there in July. I walked from the ship to the People Mover (which took me about 15 mins walk from where we were docked), that cost €1.30 one way and dropped off at Piazzale Roma and then I wandered down through the streets to St Mark's square. Took me a leisurely hour walking from the ship to St Mark's in total (including the ride). Edited August 12, 2014 by GaryT-UK
nancyneptune Posted August 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted August 12, 2014 Thanks to all for the replies. Thinking about it for next year. May be cruise or short break.
