Charleston handicap embarkation

My husband has COPD and struggles going up stairs and ramps. On our last cruise from Baltimore he was exhausted by the time we got on board (long ramp to climb). He would never ask for any special assistance. However, at other ports, haven't I seen another entrance, maybe at street level, in which handicap passengers can enter the ship? He has a handicap placard for our vehicle and the necessary documentation. Would we just ask about this at check-in at Charleston?
