greg33418 Posted August 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2014 Hi all.. On the JOURNEY this October and one of the ports of call is Corsica.. I know little about the island other than Napoleon was exiled (i believe) there. Where do we dock/tender and what's to do?? I am fluent in French if that means anything ( I am sure it does in some way to the locals...:) Need some help here.. Thanks in advance.. Greg Depending on which cruise you are on in October, you are either docking at Bastia or Ajaccio. Noting that Livorno is one of your ports, then it will likely be Bastia. Apparently there is a bus service there that takes you through the port to the town itself. Ajaccio has a connection to Napoleon as it was his birthplace. As to sights, your question would be best posed on the Ports of Call forum, and the search engine there may help as well.
wcyellin Posted August 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2014 If it were me, I'd look at a couple of things. (1) I'd look thru the ship's shore excursion list to see what they're offering. (2) Then I'd look at a couple of web-sites like: http://fathomaway.com/guides/europe/france/itineraries/itinerary-corsica-france/ or http://takingtotheopenroad.com/top-attractions-corsica/ (3) Then, I'd look at the prior and next cruise stops, to determine if the Corsica day should be an active or a relaxed one. You can then develop some options. Maybe you just want to walk around Ajaccio, where the ship will likely dock. Maybe you want to tour the mountains and villages. Just come up with several alternatives. The night before Ajaccio, you'll be at the Monaco Yacht Club, with your fellow cruisers. You'll be able to get the opinions of others, and -perhaps- find a small group to rent a van, or hire a van with a driver/guide. Also, the night before you'll have a better idea of the expected weather. In any case, it's a great island, and you'll enjoy it.
