carnival points from discover card

The Discover card gives you double Carnival points for your reward points. Does anyone know if this is a gift card or do you need to book the cruise with Discover's travel agency to get the double points?

When I booked the Dream last March I used my Discover card because it said 5% cash back but you had to use their travel company. They were ok, but I prefer booking directly with Carnival, and it drove me crazy every time there was a price drop I had to call the travel agency. They seemed annoyed with me calling. Also, turns out the 5% cash back was only up to $75.

Honestly, it didn't seem worth it and for my next cruise in November I booked directly through Carnival and paid with it with my Capital One Venture card (which gives 2% cash back on everything).

I can understand if you only got the 5%. However, if you have $100 in reward points, you can get $200 for a Carnival cruise. So, much better than just the 5% return.

I did one of my cruises using my cashback rewards from Discover, and yes, you need to use their travel agency. I had 4 price drops for that cruise, and I did not have any problem getting those price drops, I just had to call the travel agency.
