Leaving Camp Carnival

Do the kids get to leave Camp Carnival for activities?

I don't mean signing themselves out, but are there scheduled activities with the counselors outside of the room itself?

If so, what?

I'll have two in the 6-8 year old room and one in the 11 year old room.

Thanks. :)

Anytime there Camp Carnival activities going on, whether in the actual camp location or elsewhere on the ship, there are counselors there. Kids can't go in and out of any activities unless they are authorized to do so by their parents. Even if they are of age. There are lots of activities that take place outside of the camp location. Hope that answers your question.

Hope that answers your question.

Huh?? LOL

I'm asking whether or not there are scheduled activities for the 6-8 year old and 9-11 year olds outside of the actual CC room.

If so, what kind of activities?

I'm just afraid that my kids will be bored sitting in a room the entire time they are in CC.

Yes, both of those age groups usually have activities outside of the camp area.

You will even see on some ships, they will combine these two age groups and go together with the counselors. When they do leave, there will be plenty of counselors for these age groups and not just 1 or 2 counselors. I remember ours had 8 counselors walking the group of 15-20 kids around deck.

Now, the smaller ones (2-5) very rarely leave camp with the counselors. The older ones, above age 12, have just hang outs with the counselors and just one or two that goes along with the activities... These two age groups, I believe and seen, had the most fun around the ship but in a safe manner because there was no parents, only camp counselors and they got to do a lot of activities.. I really felt same leaving our kids with them..

Thanks. :) I guess I didn't word my original question very well. :o

What kind of activities do they do outside of the CC room? Mini golf?

We have gone twice now on Carnival cruises with our 3 kids and they don't spend a lot of time in Camp Carnival but I know they did a scavenger hunt outside of the CC room, they all enjoyed it and we even got a chance to see them having their fun as they passed around the main pool area.

I don't get the sarcastic response. I said at the end of my post that there are alot of activities outside of camp. Counselors are always there. I have schedules I would have been happy to send so you can get an idea of what they do. Even when they are in the camp location, they are usually engaged in a specific activity. Unless a child doesn't want to. They won't force them and will allow them to play games, watch a video, color or whatever to keep them content. At least that's been my kids' experience - both of whom fall in the same age groups as yours.

  • 1 month later...
Scavenger hunts, mini golf, trips to get ice cream, activities in the lounge (making towel animals, dance parties, arts/crafts, etc.) and a few more that I am forgetting.. There was always something going on though..

Do they 6-8 year old get to do these things, too?

Only the 9-11 year olds go on the scavenger hunt (where they are on their own with their "team").

9-11 also go mini golfing one night and will go to a show one night.

I don't THINK the 6-8 really get to go anywhere out of the camp…maybe to a show one night. The 2-5 definitely don't go anywhere. There is a dance party one day but the parents are instructed to pick them up directly from there.

They do a lot of fun activities (towel demostration, face painting, magician, etc) but it is done in the camp area.

Also, the great thing is they will give you a schedule of the week's activities so you can plan everything and drop off and pick up throught the day.

The problem with this for my family was I have always had my children in two separate age groups and ,therefore, different times for events. It became almost stressful some days running from the waterslides to the kids camp for one child's activity and then picking up when another's was over….but it is their vacation too and I have always wanted them to love going to camp. We usually hold a "family meeting" over breakfast planning out the day of who wants to do what and make some compromises :)

Noooooooo!!!!!! :(

this is my biggest concern with having the kids with us this cruise. Our lives are SO busy and we are constantly running from one place to another (school, sports, parties, playdates, Girl Scouts, etc.) at specific times. What I love about cruising so much is (on sea days) not caring what TIME IT IS and just RELAXING.

I was so surprised to learn that Camp Carnival closes right in the middle of the day. It's not like I want to just forget about my kids for the cruise :o but I really would like to enjoy a family cruise without constantly stressing about what TIME it is!

It closes for lunch from 12-1. Then it usually has the "Teddy Bear workshop", (aka build-a-bear), from 1-2pm. It closes from 5-6 to set up for dinner. At 6PM they meet at teh Lido buffet for dinner then escort the children to their next activity. After 10 Pm there is a charge.

Usually the last sea day they have "family activities" where one parent has to be present.

I have CC scheduled for the 6-8 and 9-11 groups. They are usually the same from ship to ship.

On their first cruise, the kids were new to the whole thing so they weren't up on the schedule and what not. But by the time this year's cruise came around, they were ready and had it in their head that they were going to do everything THEY wanted to. And for the first day or two, my husband and I spent alot of time being subjected to their schedule. Ummm nooo. I had to pump the brakes on that and set up some rules. It was our vacation too and I'm not about to be running here and there adhering to two kids' schedules. They have activities for every age group all day. They do close for lunch, which makes sense but can also be challenging.

I would suggest you definitely attend the orientation. Get two copies of the schedules. Keep one with you and post the other one in the room. And sit down at night and plan for the next day. They may not be able to do every single thing with camp and hey they may not want to. In the end, my kids spent more time at camp in the evenings including eating dinner with their friends all but two nights.

We had been on 5 cruises without the kids, but bringing them is great. Just not as much room for spontaneity. You'll figure it out!

But aren't there a lot of things that the kids can do on their own in CC?? (I'll have two kids in the 6-8 group and one in the 9-11 group).

Again... not trying got just forget about the kids on sea days, but I would think we wouldn't be the only set of parents who won't want to be "scheduled to death" on our vacation!??! We will be in ports together all day as a family....breakfast, lunch, and dinner as a family. Probably the evening shows, too. But I really want to RELAX on sea days and not worry about taking kids from activity to activity while constantly checking my watch. :( (in other words... my everyday life. :D )

If we opt out of a scheduled "family activity", will they still have the option of playing at Camp Carnival without a parent? Like the Build a Bear, for example. I'm assuming this is done during the regular hours? If we choose not to do this, will CC still have other activities they can do?
