1st night of 4 day ensenada cruise, how informal clothing allowed to be?

Are you allowed to be casual, ie- shorts etc. on the 1st night, day of boarding?

The first night they are pretty lax with the dress code since some will not have their luggage in time for dinner. You might want to pack an extra set of clothing in your carry-on. On the first night of our Ensanada cruise, we saw a man wearing Big Smith Overalls and he didn't get turned away:p

I think most people do pack a change of clothing in their carryon for dinner the first night, just in case. In 18 cruises, only once was my luggage later than 4PM.
